The big balls are back. After a successful summer last year, Wipeout is back for a second season. We at the TV Legion were fans of the first season. Wipeout wasn’t the most thought provoking show on television but it mindless fun and sometimes you just need that in the summer. With a new season comes more wipeouts and ever wackier obstacles. After the jump see some of what you can expect out of the new season of Wipeout.
I am not here to try and convince people who did not like the first season to try the second season. If you didn’t like the first season there is no reason to tune into this season since things really haven’t changed much. There are still wacky obstacle courses filled with plenty of wipeouts. If that didn’t appeal to you last summer it won’t this summer either. I do encourage people who didn’t watch Wipeout last season to give the show a chance since it is lighthearted fun. Fans of the first season also need to check out the second season which begins tomorrow (May 27th, 2009) at 8/7 C.
As far as the second season is concerned, I have to admit that I was surprised by how many changes were made for the second season of Wipeout. The format has stayed the same: three rounds and then the final challenge. The changes come in the new obstacles this season. The big balls, sucker punch, and the sweeper are back (upgraded though). There are several new obstacles that have the promise to bring many laughs this summer.

The Hurdles
We begin with the hurdles. They may just look like your typical hurdles from track and field but you would be sadly mistaken. These hurdles move up and down. If the first episode is any indication of their wipeout potential, they will become a new Wipeout classic. The hurdles just always seem to be in the perfect position to create a wipeout. I just hope the male contestants are allowed to wear a cup or they could be a very painful obstacle.

The Motivator
Another new “obstacle” in the qualifying round is The Motivator. Contestants are no longer able to wait and take their precious time before attempting the big ball obstacle. If they wait too long now they will be knocked off the platform by the motivator.

Slippery Course
A new event this season is the slippery course. It is similar to the dizzy dummy courses from last season except there is no dizzy dummy. The courses are probably a little harder but I think the event would have been better if they kept the dizzy dummy.

The Human Catapult and Wipeout Zone
The biggest change this season appears to be in the Wipeout Zone. While I don’t know if it will change week to week, I can confirm that at least this week’s Wipeout Zone is entirely new. Nothing returns from last season and I personally think that is a good thing. Hopefully this season the Wipeout Zone changes more often since having the same Wipeout Zone week after week kind of got boring quickly.

Wow! Awesome photos. I found this other site where you can see tons more photos. http://www.wipeoutphotos.com
