Ugly Betty S3.E16 Things Fall Apart:

Being an accountant, last night’s episode of Ugly Betty left me with a lot of questions mostly dealing with how unrealistic the main storyline truly was. Quite a few things really didn’t add up. Despite not really being able to overlook the business inaccuracies, last night’s episode of Ugly Betty still had it’s moments and Betty appears to finally be getting another long term relationship.

Overall I didn’t mind Connor ending up being a corrupt CFO but I thought Ugly Betty did a pretty poor job revealing it. Obviously they wanted one of the regular cast to find the corruption but with a basic knowledge of business and accounting, you can truly see how unrealistic the storyline was. Unless Connor is the dumbest corrupt businessman ever, there is no way in the world that Betty (who even claimed she was terrible with numbers) could have uncovered the corruption. If someone is going to steal money from the company they are not going to make it so obvious that it can be easily found by just seeing that the numbers don’t match up. I am guessing that Ugly Betty oversimplified the corruption so mainstream America could understand it but with a knowledge of accounting and business in general I have to say that it was a very unrealistic storyline. Unless you just wanted to be caught, you would be much more methodical with your planning in order to cover your own tracks.

The other thing that left me pondering is what in the world happened to the money. Connor got away so did he get away with all the money or was he not able to get anymore money? If he did get away with all the money they either have to track him down or Mode will be shut down very very soon. Otherwise I can’t believe that he couldn’t have gotten away with all the money he had already stolen from Mode.

Enough of my nitpicking about the business side of last night’s episode. While I feel sorry for Daniel (possibly losing all his money and his girlfriend), I do feel happy for Betty. While it is early, I am really starting to like the Betty/Matt relationship. They seem to make a good couple and I would like the relationship last at least the rest of the season. Maybe if things go well he could also come back next season.

Your Take: Did you like the corruption storyline despite it being totally unrealistic? Do you like the Betty/Matt relationship? What do you think happened to all the money Connor stole from the company.
