how i met your mother the stintsons 300x200 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)How I Met Your Mother

After having to wait three weeks to meet Barney’s “family” I have to say that even though I had really high expectations for the episode, the episode met most of them. Ted’s terrible acting and Marshall’s anger that Lily didn’t like his mother were good storylines but Barney’s storyline was the best. From his reference to 80’s child actors  being the best (which includes himself), to all the work he put into finding his fake family the storyline was funny, believable (at least for Barney), and even a little touching. It was touching since it was good to see Barney’s love for his mother when we usually only see his womanizing ways. Barney’s mother also shows us quite a bit of why Barney turned out the way he did. Finally the moment at the end of the episode where Barney’s mother hoped he would find his true love and Barney stared at Robin was a touching moment. While some fans don’t want to see Barney and Robin together, I defininently want them to eventually become a couple. I just hope the series doesn’t do it too early.

the big bang theory the cushion 300x200 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)

The Big Bang Theory

Meanwhile on the Big Bang Theory we found out that Walowitz might not be quite as pitiful as we first thought. While his storyline was probably the major storyline of the episode, once again Sheldon stole the spotlight. This episode once again brought up my thoughts on why anyone is actually Sheldon’s friend. I honestly want to know how someone could stand him long enough to actually be his friend. This is further reinforced when Leonard revealed what he had to actually do in order to make Sheldon believe his favorite Chineese restaurant was still open. He was priceless once again though as he freaked out about his sofa cushion getting shot with a paintball gun.

chuck versus the beefcake 300x199 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)

Chuck

It appears when the Chuck showrunners said that the end of season two of Chuck would be like 3 seasons compacted into only a couple episodes, they weren’t exagerating. While Chuck will hopefully be picked up for another season, I really can’t be disappointed with the end of season two if it ends up being the series finale. I actually think this season will provide a great series finale since I think Chuck and the gang will finally bring down Fulcrum. The question remains about what the show will do for season three though if Fulcrum is destroyed this season. Personally I would like to start seeing Chuck actually becoming an agent. Obviously still a clumsy and dorky agent but I would like to see him start getting some training to actually become an adequate agent. It is truly pretty sad that the government hasn’t given him any training whatsoever after he has almost been killed so many times. I guess we will just have to wait and see what they plan on doing with Chuck if it gets a third season.

As far as last night’s episode is concerned it was another great episode in my opinion. From Chuck’s weak resistance to torture to Lester and Jeff trying to get supermodels to sleep with them, the episode was strong throughout.

24 day 7 7 8 pm 300x200 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)

24

Maybe it is just me but I really think last night’s 2 hour 24 event was really hurt by it’s promotion. Don’t get me wrong, the episodes were both pretty good but I have to say that the advertising department at Fox really blew it. While I don’t mind a preview of the next episode, I don’t appreciate having the whole episode spoiled. If you paid attention to the previews you were pretty much spoiled about everything that happened in this week’s episode.

Other than my disappointment over the promotion for the episodes, the episodes were good episodes and brought up some interesting future storylines. Obviously Juma’s days are most likely limited (I give him an hour or two) but the question then becomes whether the gang goes after Jonas Hodges the new villain on 24. I wonder if he will be brought down yet this season or whether his stint will carry onto next season. While we really don’t know a whole lot about him I think he has the potential to be a great 24 villain.

heroes exposed 300x192 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)Heroes

Some Heroes fans will probably not believe what I am about to say but I thought last night’s episode was one of the best episodes since season one. I have ripped on the show for quite a while and after last week’s future painting (that we have seen way to many variations of in the past) I thought the show had finally jumped the shark and the show would go down hill quickly. Thankfully Heroes had a rebound episode by doing something that the show hasn’t done since season one, focus on character development. What was so great about season one was that it focussed on the characters not just their abilities. That has really been missing since season one. While I am not ready to fully forgive Heroes for the past one and half seasons, if this season has more episodes like last night’s I think Heroes could really start redeeming itself.

kylexylogo TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)Kyle XY

While Kyle XY’s time on television airwaves is quickly coming to an end (only 2 more episodes), I have to say that I am pretty satisfied with where the series is headed. While I wish Kyle XY wasn’t cancelled there is nothing that can be done about it so hopefully we will get a satisfying series finale. Hopefully the showrunners were able to create a series finale that will answer enough of our questions. My guess is that Kyle and Jessi with either bring down Latnok or they will at least discover their motives. Obviously the former would be more satisfying but I wouldn’t mind the latter either. Finally while I wasn’t happy with the Kyle/Jessi hookup at first it is actually starting to grow on me a little.

a taste of her own medicine 300x225 TV Roundup (March 2nd, 2009)Medium

Overall I thought last night’s episode of Medium was a pretty good episode but I am wondering why Medium has really started walking the gray line on their cases likely. While I don’t mind a show deviating from the normal catch the evil criminal storyline, I really don’t think a show can continue to have morally gray cases every week.

For example in this week’s case the daughter kind of deserved to die after killing her husband’s ex wife and essentially torturing her daughter in order to get attention. The problem I had though was that I don’t know why her mother didn’t just call the police. While it might have hurt the family in the short run, I think it is a better alternative than killing her daughter.
