It’s nearing the end for the Waltons. With season 8 being released on January 8th, 2008 there will only be one more season and some TV movies left to be released on DVD. With seven seasons already being released, it is pretty obvious that the eighth season of the Waltons isn’t for everyone. If you are a fan of the series though you should get quite a bit of enjoyment out of the 8th season as well.

Just like the seven prior seasons, the eighth season of the Waltons continues to follow the Walton family during the depression and WWII. In season eight, the USA is in the thick of World War II. While the war might tear a family apart, it only makes the Waltons stronger as they all try to help out with the war effort. Many other major events occur in the Walton’s life including Olivia returning home, Ben and Cindy welcoming another child into the world, cousin Rose and her children moving in the Waltons, and Jim Bob graduating from high school.

The TV Legion has received quite a few of the Waltons’ seasons by now. With another season comes mostly the same feelings I have had for the rest of the seasons. The Waltons is not a bad show but it is also not a great show either. It’s basically a typical character drama. If you are interested in character dramas and are interested in the Depression/WWII era you should enjoy the Waltons. If neither interest you, you probably wouldn’t be interested in the Walton’s.

Since this is the eighth season overall, it should be pretty obvious that you probably shouldn’t pick up this season unless you have seen the previous seasons. There are some shows you don’t really need to see in order. The Waltons really aren’t one of these. While you will probably still know what is going on, you won’t truly appreciate what is going on if you haven’t seen previous seasons. So with that said I would not recommend that you pick up the eighth season of the Walton’s unless you have seen the first seven.

As far as the special features are concerned, you only get one. The one special features is A Waltons Retrospective Special which an hour and 36 minute, 10th year anniversary special that looks at 10 years of memories. If you are a fan of the Waltons’ you should enjoy it. If you aren’t a huge fan of the show though I don’t think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Since this is the eighth season of the Waltons there really are two things that are needed to enjoy this dvd set. Since it is the eighth season, you really have to have seen the previous seven seasons. Second you obviously need to be a fan of the show and the character drama genre. The second thing ends up relying on the first since I don’t think anyone would watch seven seasons of a show that they didn’t really like. So my recommendation for the eighth season of the Waltons is pretty simple. If you have seen the previous seven seasons and have enjoyed them, their is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy the eighth season as well.
