Set during the prohibition era (1920’s-1930’s), the untouchables are a group of police agents free from corruption that ruled the era. Led by Eliot Ness the untouchables try to clean up the streets. In this volume Ness and his men are given more power and freedom as narcotics sweep through the streets and a new racketeering bill is passed.

Before I start critiquing the second volume of the second season of the Untouchables I need to bring up that I haven’t seen any of the episodes prior to these episodes. So I am going into this volume with no knowledge of the show.

I would have to say that I was pretty disappointed by this DVD set. As loyal readers know I am not a huge fan of black and white television. I can stand black and white but for the most part black and white movies and TV are too boring in my opinion. Pretty much everything in black and white is pretty old (unless it was used in a modern movie/TV show for effect). Since these are usually older shows they just aren’t as relevant today as they were when they were first released. This is actually a very accurate description of the Untouchables in my opinion.

I just didn’t find The Untouchable to be that entertaining. I actually thought it was a little boring in my opinion. The idea for the show is decent but the show doesn’t really capture the excitement that it could have. The show is just too slow in my opinion. Since this is an older show things were different when it first came out and that is why it was probably stylized and paced like it was. It just doesn’t work today though.

While I didn’t really like The Untouchables I wouldn’t totally rule it out for you. If you like crime drama/gangster TV shows and movies I think you will like The Untouchables. In my opinion it has the feel of older gangster type movies. Also if you were a fan of the show when it originally aired I would suggest you pick up the DVD set since it is pretty much the only way you are going to be able to watch the episodes again.

I didn’t really like the Untouchables but if you either liked the show or older gangster movies I would suggest that you pick up The Untouchables Season Two Volume Two.
