Ready for a vacation? What about a trip on the Pacific Princess? You can once again take a journey on the Pacific with the second volume of the first season of The Love Boat. With a crew of Captain Stubing, the Doc, Gopher, Issac the Bartender, and Julie the cruise director there is never a dull time on the Pacific Princess.

Obviously when The Love Boat originally aired I never watched it. I actually wasn’t even alive so that would have made it pretty hard to watch it. So obviously I had never seen the show before. I had heard of the show before so I was interested in checking it out. Why don’t I just say that it didn’t live up to hype in my opinion.

So you are probably asking why I didn’t really like it? I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that the show is over 30 years. That wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that it didn’t age that well in my opinion. The show really isn’t that relevant in my opinion unless you actually lived during the 1970’s. Since I didn’t live in the 1970’s the show never really interested me that much.

To tell you the truth I couldn’t tell if this was supposed to be a comedy or drama. I really didn’t laugh even once so if it is a comedy it obviously didn’t do a good job making me laugh. I did laugh a couple times but not nearly enough for a comedy. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the show it is essentially an hour show that follows couples on their vacations and the wacky crew of the cruise ship. In my opinion it is pretty hard to compare to any other shows since there really isn’t many of these type of shows anymore and since I haven’t watched a ton of older TV it would be hard to compare it any of those either.

As far as fans of the show are concerned you get the final twelve episodes of the first season (the first episodes of the season can be found in volume one). You also get some episodic promos which I have never found that interesting since they are essentially commercials for the show. Finally you get the movie of the week, The New Love Boat which was the precursor to the show.

I have probably been a little harsh on the Love Boat. I know there are quite a few people that really liked the show. It didn’t really appeal to me though. The show seem dated in my opinion. Overall I thought The Love Boat was below average. If you have never watched the show but have liked other 1970’s and 1980’s shows that you have tried you should think about picking up this DVD set. While it might be better to pick up the first volume it is far from necessary since this really isn’t one of those shows that you really need to watch the episodes in order since I knew what was going on and I never watched the first volume. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pick on the DVD set. If you were a fan of the show you should definitely pick up the set if you want to watch the episodes over again.
