Plot:

The Boston Strangler The Untold Story tells the story of, you guessed it, The Boston Strangler murders. In the 1960s (well before I was even born) a series of murders caught the attention of the whole country. The murderer would sexually assault women and then strangle them to death. A man named Albert DeSalvo confessed to the crimes but to this day no one knows for sure if he actually committed the crimes. This movie takes a look at the possibility that the police arrested the wrong man for the murders. Before I address the plot I need to bring up that I really wasn’t at all familiar with the Boston Strangler killings before watching this movie. I had only heard about them but had knew nothing about that. I am probably not alone since most people that are reading this probably aren’t that familiar with them either. You would think that the filmmakers would have realized this but they didn’t so people that aren’t familiar with the case have to catch up quickly which makes this movie really hard for people to follow if they don”t know about the case beforehand.

Overall the plot wasn’t that interesting in my opinion. I found the movie to be pretty boring. Add to that some unneeded violence that wasn”t even necessary. It seemed like the violence was just added in to bump up the horror appeal and please people that like to have violence in their movies. The movie would have been much better if it just focussed on the characters instead of trying to be a horror movie when it isn”t one.

Acting:

The acting was pretty average in my opinion. No performances really stood out in any way. I have seen worse acting but I have also seen much better acting. Even though the acting is far from great it doesn’t really take anything away from the film though.

Special Features:

If you are looking for special features you will probably be disappointed by this DVD. You essentially only get a commentary and the theatrical trailer. I really don’t have to tell you about either special feature due to the fact that neither are anything more than what you would expect from a normal DVD.

Final Thoughts:

Overall I didn’t really enjoy The Boston Strangler The Untold Stranger. The two reasons I didn’t like the film was that there was pretty much no backstory to explain the case to people who weren’t familiar with the killings, and the fact that violence seemed to have only been added in order to add horror and violence to try and attract more people to the film. Even though I didn’t like the film doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t like it. If you are a fan of true crime type movies or horror movies you could get some enjoyment out of the movie.
