The Big Bang Theory follows the life of Leonard and Sheldon. Both are geniuses and at least for Sheldon he isn’t afraid to let people know it. While they might be brainiacs they are far from experts in women. When Penny moves across the hall everything changes as Leonard falls in love with her at first sight. Leonard tries to expand his horizons while Sheldon is hesitant to ever change his routine. Joining them are Rajesh (who can’t talk to women) and Howard (who thinks he is much better with the ladies than he actually is). Join these four nerds and one beautiful neighbor as they find out that there is more to someone than their outward appearance.

I was really excited when I received The Big Bang Theory in the mail. At this point the Big Bang Theory is my second favorite comedy on television (How I Met Your Mother is first). The Big Bang Theory was one of the best new shows of last season and easily the best comedy of last year.

Why do I like Big Bang Theory so much? Since I would consider myself a nerd it was kind of a given. Filled with nerd references and humor any nerd/geek should love this comedy. While the comedy has a lot of nerd and geek humor that doesn’t mean that other people won’t enjoy The Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory is one of the best comedies on television and I think you should enjoy it as long as you like sitcoms that don’t take themselves that seriously. You will also probably like it if you like Two and a Half Men since The Big Bang Theory was also created by Chuck Lorre.

Due to the writer’s strike The Big Bang Theory failed to have a full season (like almost every other show). The Big Bang Theory only had 17 episodes but in my opinion that isn’t that big of problem. Even with less episodes there are plenty of laughs to go around. Overall the whole season was strong. There wasn’t a single episode in the entire season that I didn’t laugh at least once while watching. There really wasn’t a weak episode in my opinion but I thought the show got stronger as the season went on.

Along with the strong episodes I thought the acting is also very good in my opinion. Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Jim Parson (Sheldon) both give great performances in the lead roles. Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard), and Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh) also give great supporting performances.

One thing I do have to bring up before I wrap up this review is the special features. I would have to say that I was kind of disappointed by the special features included in this DVD set. Surprisingly the Big Bang Theory only has one special feature. For a current TV show this is actually pretty disappointing. At least the one special feature that is included in the set is actually pretty good. It is a behind the scenes look at the show. It contains interviews with the whole cast along with Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It is around 17 to 18 minutes long. The reason I liked the special feature was that I actually learned quite a bit about the show. One thing I learned was there were actually two pilots and that the Penny character turned out quite different than it was originally planned to be (I’ll let you learn more about that if you buy the DVD set).

Overall I thought the first season of The Big Bang Theory was very good. The Big Bang Theory is one of the best comedies on TV today. I thought all 17 episodes were strong. The one thing that disappointed me a little was the lack of special features but it didn’t really hurt the DVD set in my opinion. If you are a fan of the show you should pick up the DVD set if you want to re-watch all the first season episodes. If you have never watched The Big Bang Theory I would suggest that you check it out as long as you like sitcoms.
