When I received this DVD in the mail I knew this review was going to be hard to write. I had actually never seen the show so I knew barely anything about the show before watching it. After watching I wouldn’t say that it is necessary to watch the previous season but it definitely couldn’t hurt since it is always good to know the whole backstory. Despite not seeing the previous seasons of the show I would have to say that Teen Titans the Complete Fifth Season is a pretty average cartoon.
Plot
The Teen Titans return for their fifth and final season in this DVD set. The Teen Titans are a group of superheroes that are naturally teens. Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven fight evil in order to keep the world safe (just like every other superhero). In this season the Teen Titans have to face of against the Brotherhood of Evil which is lead by the criminal mastermind Brain. It’s all up to the Teen Titans to save the day one final time.
Looking at the plot you can probably already notice something. Teen Titans is basically your generic superhero cartoon. Obviously it has different characters and different powers but the premise of the show is pretty much the same. A group of superheroes fight evil in order to save the world. Since the show is much like other superhero cartoons it is pretty easy to tell if you will like the show or not. If you generally like superhero cartoons you should like the plot. If you dont like generic superhero cartoons you probably won’t like the plot.
As far as though who haven’t seen the previous four seasons I would probably recommend you check out the previous 4 seasons before you pick up the fifth season. If you check out the previous seasons and enjoy them You should pick up the fifth season as well. If you try the first season and don’t like that show though you are just out of the money for the first season. It isn’t necessary to watch the previous 4 seasons (I didn’t) but I think you will get more enjoyment out of the set if you do watch the episodes in order.
Acting/Voice Acting
Overall I thought the voice acting was one of the poorest aspects of the show. I personally didn’t think the voice acting was very good. The voice acting is pretty corny overall and really takes away form the show in my opinion. I thought the show could have been better if more thought was put into the voice acting.
Visuals
As far as visuals are concerned you should pretty much know what you are getting. Since this is a cartoon you should already know what it is going to look like. It pretty much has a typical cartoon look to it. The visuals don’t really stand out but they also don’t really distract from the experience. So as far as visuals go you are pretty much getting some pretty average cartoon visuals.
Special Features
The special features are pretty disappointing in my opinion. You only get one special feature which is pretty disappointing since this is the final season of the show. The feature is a gallery which features all the friends and foes from the show. I would have to say that only huge fans of the show would get a lot of enjoyment out of this special feature.
Final Thoughts
Overall I thought that the Teen Titans was a pretty average cartoon. It is not bad but it also doesn’t really stand out in anyway at least in my opinion. If you like cartoons you probably should get some enjoyment out of the show especially if you like superhero cartoons. If this doesn’t describe you though I would recommend that you pass on the fifth season of Teen Titans.
