After this week’s episode aired, I had only one thought. Thank goodness Lana won’t be coming back again this season. While I didn’t mind Lana in the first couple of season of Smallville, her character drags down the show now. Before Lana came back this season, Smallville was having a rebound season. The show really turned itself around. When Lana came back everything appeared to come to a screeching halt. There just really isn’t any place for Lana on Smallville anymore. If those in charge of Smallville are smart, they wouldn’t even bother about bringing her back next season.
So the plot for this week’s Smallville was kind of ridiculous. A crazy toymaker (who is working for Lex) uses his toys as explosives to try and kill all of Lex’s enemies including Oliver (who recently took over Luthorcorp). With Lana’s new abilities she decides to help Clark track down the killer. They eventually track down the Toymaker’s big bomb and since it is made out of Kryptonite Lana needs to absorb it with her new “suit”. She disarms the bomb but she was so exposed to the Kryptonite that she can’t be near Clark ever again. Meanwhile Oliver supposedly finds where Lex is hiding and blows up the location with a bomb.
Overall this week’s episode wasn’t bad but it wasn’t that good either. The whole storyline with the Toymaker was pretty ridiculous and how are any of us seriously supposed to believe that Lex is truly dead. Unless Smallville is going to go far outside the Superman universe and actually let Lex die, there is no way he can be dead.
So with Lana finally out of the picture, maybe Smallville can return to what made the begining of the season so good. Maybe Louis can actually show up in an episode finally. I think someone has to put out a missing report on her since she seems to have just disappeared recently. I guess Louis tends to do that from time to time. Maybe we can also finally get back to Doomsday. I don’t know if it is just me but he looked quite angry after emerging from that pod. I can’t believe he would just sit around doing nothing. I mostly just want to get back on pace and leave the whole Lana storyline in the past where it should remain.
So hopefully with Lana finally out of the picture again, Smallville can regain the momentum from the earlier episodes this season.
Quotes:
Chloe: “It looks like someone is getting well quickly.”
Oliver: “Maybe you should take your toys and go home.”
Chloe: “I made you a Lex tracker.”
Your Take: What are your thoughts on Requiem? Are you glad like me that Lana is finally gone?
