After almost a year break and a change in networks, Scrubs is finally back on the air. With this possibly being the final season of Scrubs and last season being kind of a disappointment, Scrubs had it’s work cut out for itself. After last night’s two episodes, I think that Scrubs is on the right track for a good possible final season.
While the episode was pretty good overall. I need to first address the funniest part of the whole episode, the ending. I thought it was hilarious how the episode ended with JD and the gang talking about how to make this eighth year great. Some of the highlights included how the Nielson’s hated them (a shot at the Nielson ratings), and how the hospital hadn’t won any of the yearly medical awards (a shot at the show not winning any awards). I hope these jokes making fun of the show’s past continue throughout the season since I think it could lead to a good conclusion for the show. I am waiting for the joke making fun of NBC though since Bill Lawrence (the creator of Scrubs) pretty much hates NBC due to how they treated Scrubs the past seven seasons.
So in this episode, Sacred Heart gets a new chief of medicine named Dr. Maddox (Courtney Cox). While at first she seems like a kind and caring doctor, it turns out that she is just like Dr. Kelso. She might actually even be worse than Dr. Kelson. While I think the move was a casting stunt, I thought Courtney Cox did a good job in the role.
Meanwhile JD had to deal with his incompetent interns. I honestly don’t know why every doctor on television ends up having incompetent interns. JD’s group includes the show off, the rude doctor with no bedside manner at all, and the total geek (who trolls the Lost message boards late at night looking for women). I actually like JD’s new group of interns (especially Ed the geek) and think they will bring quite a few laughs to the season.
Finally Eliot learned first hand how selfish she truly has been over the past year or so. She finds out how truly devastated Keith still is that she dumped him. She eventually makes ammends with Keith. Obviously this storyline wasn’t one of the highlights of the episode. It was still a decent storyline though.
Quotes:
JD (talking about Matthew McConaughey): “I recently learned how to lose him in 10 days.”
JD (to his interns): “When a patient’s eyes are open that means the patient is awake.”
So what did you think of the eighth season premiere of Scrubs? What do you think of the possibility that this could be it’s final season?
