Note: We are testing out a new way of recapping episodes this week. Since most people just watch the episode online if they missed it on TV, recaps are no longer as important. We think longer reviews containing just the most important information would be a better way to go. Do you agree? How do you think we could improve these episode reviews?
The episode started off with a very funny couch gag. The couch gag has become so big that it even has its own Mount Rushmore-esque monument. This was definitely one of the funnier gags of the last few seasons. The main plot then involved Bart and his quest for a cell phone. He eventually happens upon Denis Leary’s and signs him up for such films as “Everybody Poops” (just as long as Leary gets to do his own poops). Leary eventually finds out and tells Marge to turn on the GPS system in the phone. She starts monitoring everything he does until Lisa tells Bart what she is doing. He then puts a GPS system on a bird, eventually leading Homer, Marge, and Lisa to Machu Pichu. Marge learns that she shouldn’t be so protective of Bart but after two weeks alone, Bart never wants Marge to leave again.
The plot was much better than last week’s completely random bounty hunter episode. I think Denis Leary could have been used a bit more (he only had a whopping two scenes after all). The funniest moment was when Bart showed off his phone just before a commercial break and told us that he can even watch commercials on it. Other funny moments included Principal Skinner trying to cross a busy highway, Homer “doing his laundry” with fire, and Bart putting Viagra in Skinner’s coffee.
Favorite Quotes:
Homer as he drives by Skinner: “This counts as a parent-teacher conference.”
Marge: “Son, we can’t afford to get you a cell phone. As it is, I’m buying frozen peas in installments.”
Marge: “Bart, how did you get a cell phone?”
Bart: “The same way you got me. By accident, on a golf course.”
Bart: “Cool, you can even watch commericals on it!”
Bart: “Your son is lamer than Milhouse.”
Dr. Hibert: “This is why my kids go to private school.”
