If you’ve seen “The Daily Show” in the last year or so, you’ve probably seen the very funny John Oliver as a correspondent. If you’ve enjoyed his segments on that show, his stand-up special “Terrifying Times” will be quite a treat.

Unsurprisingly (based on Oliver’s work on “The Daily Show”), “Terrifying Times” is mainly about politics and how much trouble the world is in but Oliver also spends some time on the differences between Brits and Americans. The special is 56 minutes long and very, very funny. The DVD is so funny that it even has the most hilarious title screen of all-time. It runs over six minutes and basically consists of Oliver rambling on and on about how you should pick an option on the title screen. If you buy the DVD, make sure to watch this because these six or so minutes are actually funnier than most stand-up specials I’ve watched.

Since this is a stand-up comedy DVD, nothing really matters unless the comedy is good. Video and audio is fine but who really cares. The only thing that matters is the comedy. Luckily, John Oliver is a very funny man and will most likely become a star soon just like former “Daily Show” correspondents Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert.

The bonus features are actually quite good on this DVD. Included are some of John Oliver’s hilarious appearances on “The Daily Show,” footage of John from earlier in his career, and a few interviews. Everything is quite funny and definitely worth a watch.

“John Oliver: Terrifying Times” is a great purchase as long as you like stand-up comedy in the vein of “The Daily Show.” Highly recommended.
