“DEA: Detroit” isn’t a great show by any means but it is good enough that fans of crime reality shows will probably enjoy it. However, unless you really like shows like “Cops” and “Dog the Bounty Hunter” it probably isn’t worth a purchase.

“DEA: Detroit” follows the city’s Drug Enforcement Agency as they do undercover drug buys, bust dealers, and run surveillance. There is a lot of action but the storytelling is a bit weak and the show gets a little repetitive even though there are only six episodes in this set. The episodes are all pretty much the same. Group 14 (the team from the DEA that the show follows) suits up for their mission, busts into a dealer’s pad, and then does some undercover buys and stakeouts for their next bust.

The Group 14 members that the show follows are as bland as can be. They basically utter the exact same phrases over and over again. You’ll hear about how dangerous their job is and how every day they get to go home is a good day multiple times throughout the six episodes.

Since this is a reality series that airs on cable (Spike), video and audio quality is just average as I expected it would be. Both compare favorably to almost all reality series on the air but that isn’t saying all that much. However, compared to the episode of “Real Vice Cops: Uncut” that is the set’s lone bonus feature, it looks phenomenal. That series is awful and watching an episode definitely didn’t make me want to tune in the next time it airs.

Even though the show has some problems, people who love to watch crime reality shows will still probably enjoy it. There is enough action to hold your interest as long as you don’t mind how repetitive it gets.
