Charlie asks Alan for “a few dollars” (in his mind, this is a couple hundred). Alan only has $38 and Charlie is shocked by how little he carries around. He takes the money anyway. Charlie wakes up to Alan demanding his money back since he has to go to work. He doesn’t have his money but does have money to pay the hooker in his bed. Alan has to eat to eat on a budget of $1. When Berta leaves, Charlie has plenty of money to pay her and even gives her a bit extra. Alan asks for his money back but Charlie won’t give it to him. He was going to pay him back but Alan’s attitude “irks” him. Plus, Alan owes him approximately a million dollars for living in his house for six years anyway.
Alan siphons some of Charlie’s gas. Charlie obviously runs out of gas and has to walk a long way back home. He wonders how his gas disappeared then realizes that Alan took it. Alan disputes that claim but Charlie threatens to light him on fire. Since he still smells of gas, he obviously admits he did it. Charlie thinks it was a great plan to get the money back but Alan tells him that he still owes him $24. Charlie throws him out for being a “cheap irk.”
Alan has nowhere to go but Judith’s. He drops off Jake and Herb feels sorry enough for him that he offers his house. Alan needs a few items from Charlie’s so Herb goes to get them. He has already been annoyed by Alan. Charlie offers him a drink and a smoke to keep him away from Alan. Meanwhile, at Judith’s Alan wakes up to go to the bathroom then winds up in Judith’s bed. The two kiss (Judith thinks Herb is finally back) until they realize what just happened. Judith goes to Charlie’s in the middle of the night to drop Alan off and take Herb back. Judith makes Alan apologize but Charlie won’t take him back in. He even changed the locks so Alan can’t get in.
