At the coffee shop, Charlie sees a woman named Chrissy that he used to go out with. Their parting wasn’t very sensitive at all, in fact he banged her best friend. They went out about eight or nine years ago and curiously, she has a kid that is about that same age. Chrissy spots Charlie but isn’t angry with him. She tells him that Chuck (her son) is quite the piano player, just like Charlie. Alan starts to think it may be Charlie’s kid and even Jake notices that Chuck looks a lot like Charlie.

Alan starts joking around but Charlie thinks Chuck looks nothing like him. Plus, he is always safe so something like that couldn’t happen. Alan points out that even condoms aren’t 100% safe but Charlie had no idea. He now starts to think he did screw up. He wants to know the truth and he even dreams about all the fatherly things he could do with Chuck. He goes to Chrissy’s and asks if Chuck is his kid. Chrissy tells him that Chuck already has a dad, even if he doesn’t live there or have the amount of money Charlie has. Chuck is Charlie’s kid but he’s already lived eight years without him so he doesn’t need him.

At home, Charlie decides that he wants to spend time with Chuck because he thinks he would be a great dad. He goes to Chrissy’s place again and gives her a nice fat check and pledges that one will come every month. He doesn’t ask for anything in return, he just wants to know that Chuck is taken care of. However, when Charlie leaves we find out that Chuck isn’t even Chrissy’s kid. She was just babysitting Chuck and passed him off as her kid. At the end of the episode, Alan drops Jake off at Judith’s and we find out that she may have had a long-running affair with an exterminator/water man/deliveryman that looks very much like Jake.
