After the car explosion in last season’s finale, Cameron slowly reboots. She is very bruised and bloody. A thug enters and points his gun at Sarah. John runs but another guy gets him at gunpoint as well. Cameron finally gets up and takes some shrapnel out of her head. The thugs beat Sarah up as Cameron enters. She takes one down while John escapes and takes the other down. Cameron accidentally starts a chain reaction that leads to a fire. She sees John and finds out her mission is to terminate him. Just as she is about to do her job, the house explodes and John and Sarah jump out the window.
Cromartie doesn’t kill Agent Ellison. He later shows up “dead.” Ellison knows that Laslo, the guy who’s identity was stolen by Cromartie, has to take the blame. Sarah and John escape in a car but they get into an accident. John’s leg is in bad shape and they run from accident. Firefighters and paramedics arrive at the destroyed house. Charley finds out that Sarah and John aren’t amongst the dead. Derek is undercover as a firefighter and finds out that they came back for the hard drive. Charley hears about a car accident and figures it is Sarah. Both guys head out to find her. Sarah and John eventually get to a church and ask for sanctuary. Their request is accepted. Cameron finds blood that gives her a trail to follow.
Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a technology company, buys the Turk for a lot of money. Since computers are meant to follow rules, it is difficult to find one that doesn’t. John knows Cameron knows everything from their bank accounts to how they think. Sarah tells him that they will have to kill her but John already knows.
Agent Ellison is interviewed by the FBI and blames it all on Laslo. He is given a six-week leave of absence. Cameron finds the church and tells the pastor she is family. The pastor doesn’t give them up and John and Sarah trick Cameron to look in the baptismal fountain. They have electrical equipment in there and when she puts her hand in the water, she is electrocuted and shuts down. John tries to remove her chip but can’t do it in time. Cameron wakes up as John and Sarah run. They steal a car and try to run into Cameron but she winds up flipping the car over. Sarah is trapped and tells John to run for it. Cameron demands Sarah call for John but she won’t do it. Cameron leaves her and heads for John.
Cameron tracks John down to a warehouse. John tries to hotwire a truck but Cameron hears. Just as Cameron is about to kill John, Sarah drives a truck right into her and she is trapped between both trucks. John starts going for her chip but she claims “things are good now.” John continues his work, even when Cameron says that she loves him. He finally gets the chip and Cameron shuts down. He does think he can repair her since he did build her after all. He needs her. Sarah is proud of John for what he did and won’t let him fix her.
Derek and Sarah prepare Cameron’s body for burning. However, John puts her chip back in to see if she is still there to kill him. She claims she isn’t but her mission still comes up as “terminate John Connor.” Just as she is about to do so, the termination is cancelled. Ellison approaches Cromartie and tells him that if he thought he would lead him to Sarah, he is sorely mistaken.
Catherine Weaver tells the heads of each of her departments that a new division called Babylon will be created. It will change the world. John, Sarah, and Derek continue hiding in the church. Cameron tells Sarah not to let John bring her back again if she goes bad again. The head of A.I. at Catherine’s company doesn’t like her or her new plan. He complains about her in the bathroom but when he is about to use the urinal, something strange happens. The urinal morphs and reveals Catherine, who turns out to be a T-1001 Liquid Metal Terminator. She quickly terminates him.
