itsalwayssunny s4 300x225 Recap Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia S4.E5 Mac & Charlie Die (October 2, 2008)

Mac’s father is up for parole and Charlie and Mac testify against him. However, he says that he doesn’t want to hurt them and actually wants to get as far away as possible. He even has a recording of Charlie and Mac telling him that they were going to lie to the parole board. Needless to say, he is released. Charlie wants to run but Mac thinks it would be better to fake their deaths.

Dennis becomes interested in a hole in the bathroom that he calls a “glory hole” (a place where you can stick your junk and get anonymous sex). Mac steals the keys to Dee’s car as part of the plan. The two decide to run the car into a wall and jump out at the last minute. Charlie doesn’t do it and Mac fails to jump out in time. He takes a pretty bad blow to the head and spends most of the episode confused and stupider than Charlie for once. Since the car didn’t blow up, the two go to a pawn shop to find something to burn it with. They buy a grenade but this doesn’t really work either. Mac tries to shoot the gas tank but fails. Charlie figures that even though the car hasn’t exploded, it could be enough for the cops to rule them dead.

Frank takes Dennis to a secret sex party since he is so interested but all there are are ugly dudes and old women. Dennis quickly leaves. Dee, Frank, and Dennis learn of Mac and Charlie’s death but Dee doesn’t think they are really dead. Mac and Charlie hide out on the roof. Mac’s father is released and writes an angry letter.

Dennis, Frank, and Dee hold a wake for Charlie and Mac at the bar but only their mothers attend. Dee has to ride home on the bus and winds up seeing Charlie and Mac fighting. Dennis clears out Mac’s stuff and finds a new roommate. Dee surprises Charlie and Mac and demands a new car or she’ll tell everyone that they aren’t dead. Mac tells her that his dad is after her too. Charlie thinks she should fake her death too.

Mac’s dad posts his letter on the door of the bar with a knife. Dennis is already back to partying and still looking for his anonymous sex. Frank has made a mannequin version of Charlie and isn’t taking his death well. Dee fakes her death. Since Dennis and Frank aren’t mourning Charlie and Mac as much as they want, the two decide to haunt them. Dennis parties at the bar and his roommate gets someone to do the glory hole thing with Dennis. This turns out to be Frank so Dennis boots his new roommate.

Charlie and Mac want in on the party so they reveal they aren’t dead. Dennis already knew anyway, he heard them before the funeral and saw them staring at him outside his apartment. He started partying because he wanted to piss them off. Charlie and Mac wouldn’t have had to fake their deaths anyway, the letter just said that he was getting as far away as possible so he could forgive them.
