Recap-Fringe S1.E3 “The Ghost Network” (September 23, 2008)

fringe103 300x199 Recap Fringe S1.E3 The Ghost Network (September 23, 2008)

The Case: A man named Roy thinks God is talking to him because he sees things like an attack on a bus. He sees a guy put on a mask, expose the other riders to a toxin, and take a woman’s bag. Soon after, this attack on the bus does happen.

The Investigation: The team is brought in on the bus case. Walter knows it wasn’t a biological weapon and there was no contagion. Roy has another vision and draws a woman bleeding out of both hands. A camera is found on one of the bus victims and Olivia notices a missing backpack. They find out that the woman the backpack was taken from is a D.E.A. agent. Olivia brings the agent’s handler in for questioning and he mentions that she got scared because the cartel she was busting talked about The Pattern. He asks to say goodbye to her and Olivia lets him.

Walter figures out that the gas turned solid when it hit nitrogen. This caused all the people on the bus to suffocate. The only place with the technology to do such a thing is Massive Dynamics. Charlie gets a tip from a priest Roy confessed to. The FBI checks out Roy’s apartment and finds depictions of many attacks (including the one from the pilot episode) dated before they happened. They bring Roy in because they obviously suspect him since the details on seven of the attacks were never made public. Roy tells them that he gets feelings and has to draw or build what he is thinking to get them out of his head. He’s had them for nine months which is about the time the government learned about The Pattern. Walter thinks he could be connected to someone working with The Pattern.

Walter runs a test on Roy using a CAT scan but Roy’s veins start popping out. Metal is likely in his blood. Walter worked with William Bell (of Massive Dynamics) on a project called the “Ghost Network.” This project was meant to be a way for people to share information using brainwaves without anybody being able to intercept it. Roy was one of his test subjects but the network was never finished. Someone must have perfected the Ghost Network and Roy is now overhearing everything they say. William also thinks he can rewire Roy’s brain so they can get even more information about the culprits.

Walter performs small brain surgery and Roy starts tasting and smelling different things. He also overhears someone talking in Latin. Astrid helps translate, an exchange is being made at the train station. Also, the D.E.A. apparently had the wanted item on her the whole time. Olivia realizes that the handler took it while he was “saying goodbye” to the D.E.A. agent. Roy picks up more information and is able to point Olivia to where exactly the exchange is taking place. She finds the handler but he was shot after the exchange. Olivia chases after the guy he gave the item to and Charlie gets him at gunpoint. The guy gives up the case then steps right in front of a train.

The item stolen from the D.E.A. agent is just a clear coin-sized thing that nobody can identify. However, the guy who stepped in front of the train had been involved in two other Pattern-related activities. Roy is no longer hearing voices since the people behind The Pattern obviously know he can hear them. Phillip gives the item to Nina Sharp. She thinks it may be something they need to decrypt the information John apparently has.

The Other Stuff:

  • John’s funeral is held and Olivia can barely watch since he used her.
  • Peter sees a guy taking photos of him. He approaches and tells him to leave him alone or “he’ll be the first of the bunch he’ll go after.” Walter noticed the guy but Peter brushes it off as nothing.
  • When Peter finds out about Walter’s tests on Roy, he is understandably pissed off with his father.
