A hooker sleeps with a random guy in a hotel room. The guy secretly prepares some sort of an injection as the hooker starts screaming in pain. Something is in her belly and it continues to grow. The guy rushes her to the hospital but just drops her off and leaves. The doctors assume she is pregnant but she claims she isn’t. The hooker eventually dies but gives birth to a very strange “baby.”
Phillip tells a room of people including Nina Sharp from Massive Dynamic about the new team. He hopes that they will have more success than the last team. Nina doesn’t really like any of Phillip’s choices. Olivia and the Bishops are called to the hospital. Phillip tells them the details of the case, the newborn quickly grew and has already died as an old man. While Walter prepares to run some tests, the father calls in to find out the woman’s status. This points Olivia and Peter to a hotel room. Peter finds a bit of orange gel and Olivia quickly realizes that the guy is a serial killer she was after years ago. The guy was nicknamed “The Brain Surgeon,” as he would always kill five women and do some nasty things to them (like remove the pituitary gland from the brain). The muscle relaxant he used was orange like the substance Peter found.
“The Brain Surgeon” heads to a strip club and picks up his next girl. He takes her back to a warehouse and uses the muscle relaxant so he can retrieve the pituitary gland. Walter finishes his tests. The hooker was impregnated by a man who was likely experimented on using one of Walter’s human growth breakthroughs. Walter worked with a Dr. Penrose on these studies so Olivia goes to ask him some questions. Penrose tells her that he refused to continue the experiments since they were bad for humanity. In fact, it was a good thing for humanity that Walter was locked up.
Charlie finds The Brain Surgeon’s second victim. Walter tells Olivia that he once worked on a way to “grow” soldiers. They would quickly age but they couldn’t get the aging to stop at 21. He thinks that The Brain Surgeon is similar to the soldiers and that he needs to keep taking pituitary glands to stop the aging. The pregnancy was completely an accident.
The Brain Surgeon is revealed to be a guy named Christopher. Penrose is behind the whole thing as well. Christopher is in a lot of pain but Penrose tells him he only needs one more pituitary gland for it to stop. Walter comes up with a way to find the place the killer operates. Using equipment from Massive Dynamic, he can retrieve the last few images that the woman saw before her death. He pulls the eye out and projects a series of images onto the TV.
Christopher picks out his next target and prepares to take out the pituitary gland. Walter’s idea is fruitful, a picture of an easy-to-recognize bridge is among the images. Olivia uses government software to find out where she would have had to be to see the bridge from that angle. She then sets off with Peter to stop the guy. They find the place and the girl is still alive. Penrose is there but Olivia has to chase after Christopher. Penrose quickly does something to the girl, causing her to go into cardiac arrest. Since Peter has to attend to the woman, Penrose manages to escape. Christopher starts to get in pain and begins aging rapidly. Peter calls Walter and gets a walkthrough on how to save the woman. It works. Olivia continues to chase Christopher but he is so old that he just has to sit down. When Olivia finally reaches him, he tells her that he should have died but his “father” was blinded with love. He finally passes away.
Olivia returns the equipment to Massive Dynamic and Nina offers her a job at the corporation. It is a great place to work and it would speed her pursuit of answers. Olivia tells Phillip about the job offer, which she declined by the way. Near the end of the episode, Walter mentions that Peter has a medical problem (he doesn’t specify) but Olivia tells him that Peter’s file never mentioned any such problem. At the very end of the episode, we find out there are a few other beings that look like Christopher somewhere.
