Reaper S2.E13 The Devil and Sam Oliver
Reaper fans have known for a while that yesterday’s episode was most likely going to be the final episode of Reaper. The CW canceled it after all. Well if recent reports are true there is still a chance that Reaper may live another day. More on that and my thoughts on what could become the final episode of Reaper after the jump.
For those of you who haven’t heard there is now a realistic chance that Reaper could actually get another season. Not on the CW though. Good for the series in my opinion since the network never treated the show right. Rumors have been spreading for a while that Reaper could actually find a home in syndication. I wouldn’t get my hopes up yet but I believe there is a chance (relatively small at this point) that Reaper could actually live another day. I have to admit that it will be weird seeing the series in syndication. I’m not complaining though since more Reaper in any sense is a good thing in my opinion.
As far as last night’s episode I have to say that it was an average series finale but a good season finale. To be a great series finale I think the series had to wrap up the whole Devil versus Sam storyline. Obviously the writers were optimistic about Reaper’s chances since in my opinion they wrote the finale like they expected another season. I don’t really blame them for trying to remain optimistic but I wish there would have been more closure in case the series didn’t get another season.
I like the turn of events that now Sam and Andi’s souls belong to the Devil as long as we get another season to explore the possibilities of what that entails. The idea that Sam and Andi play a much bigger role in the battle between good and evil is also interesting. Hopefully the series won’t have to end on that cliffhanger.
As far as Ben and Nina go, I hope Nina becomes a regular if Reaper indeed gets another season. She has been a great addition to the cast. While the storyline of a human dating a demon has been done before, Reaper did a good job with the storyline this season. If this is the series finale I am glad that Ben and Nina ended the series together.
As far as Sock is concerned, how could you not just love him being himself. Sock really makes the series and I hope if the series gets another season, Tyler Labine is back (he is already cast in the Fox pilot Sons of Tucson).
So we will all have to wait to see if this was indeed Reaper’s series finale. If it was I guess we can all appreciate the two seasons we did get while wondering what could have been if the series wasn’t cut short. If Reaper does end up getting another season I know I can’t wait to talk about next season.
