fringe the dreamscape 300x200 Rants and Raves (November 26th, 2008)Fringe S1.E9 The Dreamscape

Overall another good but not great episode of Fringe. I thought the episode could have been better though since I thought Walter was a little too sane in the episode. The reason Walter is easily the best character on the show is because of his craziness from time to time. Hopefully Fringe doesn’t continue to stray to far. Hopefully they keep Walter at least a little insane since Walter’s insanity leads to almost all the humor in the show.

What I liked most about the episode is that it centered around Massive Dynamics. While I have no idea why the government hasn’t shut them down (they only seem to be involved in almost every murder investigated in the show), I think Massive Dynamics brings a mythology to the show and will lead to a continuing storyline.

Finally for those Lost fanatics who also watch Fringe, did you see the Lost reference in yesterday’s episode. If you paid close enough attention while the FBI was searching the murder victim’s apartment you would have saw an Oceanic Airline ticket made famous by the Lost crash. I wonder how they are still in business after crashing on a mysterious island that is pretty much invisible to pretty much everyone else? Now I bet all the Lost fanatics (including myself) will try to find any possible clue that there could be on the plane ticket.

Quotes:

Walter: I need you to adjust the drugs.
Peter: Well, what did you give her this time?
Walter: Drugs I’d rather be taking myself.

house last resort 300x200 Rants and Raves (November 26th, 2008)House S5.E9 The Last Resort

Regular readers probably know that I am a casual fan of House. I watch all the episodes but I have never found the show to be much more than an average show. As a matter of fact Hugh Laurie’s performance as House is one of the only reasons why I continue to watch the show. Saying that I actually thought this was probably the best episode of the season so far.

While the plot was totally unbelievable, I liked the story since it didn’t focus as much on the medical aspect like too many other episodes do. I can understand putting realism into a show but House takes it to another level especially since you pretty much have to be a doctor to know what in the world is going on at times since there is so much medical jargon thrown around. One thing I am left wondering about though is why in the world would House give the gun back to the hostage taker. I can see wanting to solve the mystery of what is wrong with him but why in the world would you put yourself and others in danger?

Quotes:

Jason: Excuse me, I’m looking for Dr. Cuddy.
House: Well, she’s either not here or she’s under the desk. Either way, you’re gonna have to wait outside until I’m finished.

House: “Next time pack some hear and we might be able to see you.”

House: “You thought two people snuck guns into the ER today?”

House: “She’s sick. You’re a large creep.”

House: “I thought I had a little more time with a man his size.”

House: “I’m trying to strangle you faster than you can shoot.”

House: “I left my CT scan in my other pants.”

House: “I have to slap you for medical purposes.”

biggest loser 610 300x202 Rants and Raves (November 26th, 2008)The Biggest Loser S6.E10

I didn’t think things could get any worse for Biggest Loser this season but I was proven wrong this week. First as a diehard Packer fan I am disappointed that the Packers weren’t represented in the episode. I also feel sorry for poor Amy. She was my favorite contestant left (even though that is not saying alot). First we find out that she is a “fan” of the lowly Lions that will be lucky to win a game this year. Then she is kicked off the show.

While I wish Amy wasn’t voted off, Amy only has herself to blame. If Amy would have just kept Colleen last week instead of keeping the witch (Vicky) then she wouldn’t have been eliminated since the three black members would have kept her. So with Amy gone now who do we have left. First we have the witch that thinks everything is a game and is even willing to “play a game” in order to win a reward challenge. Then you have Ed who would be a great contestant if it wasn’t for his wife and alliance partner Vicky. Finally we have the mother/daughter team who are ok but very very boring. Hopefully Biggest Loser can learn from this season that the show really needs some good and interesting contestants in order to remain interesting for the entire season.

frank tv electric boogaloo 300x207 Rants and Raves (November 26th, 2008)Frank TV S2.E6 Frank 2: Electric Boogaloo

While Frank TV is usually quite hit and miss, I thought last night’s episode was pretty funny. First there was WIlliam Shatner’s courtroom show that essentially features himself playing all the roles including two guys that get into a fight. Next was the Mel Gibson movie reshoots. While most of them were not that funny, I found Braveheart in emoticons to be hilarious. Finally there was Bill Clinton’s gameshow where he had to literally charm the pants off contestants.
