desperate housewives city on fire 300x168 Rants and Raves (November 17th, 2008)Desperate Housewives S5.E8 City On Fire

The rejuvenated season of Desperate Housewives continued with another great episode last night. While the commercials for the episode were misleading (we were left to assume a main character would die when the only character that died was Dave’s doctor) I thought the show did the right thing. I think it would have been stupid for the show to kill off any of the husbands (since they obviously wouldn’t kill off one of the housewives).

Last night’s episode also showed us how mentally unstable Dave truly is. He only suffocated his doctor and set fire to the club, but then decides to risk his own life to save Mike. It appears that Mike is Dave’s target and I personally would be disappointed if that was the case. From what we know right now it appears Mike is the most likely. Orson and Carlos are also possibilities though since they both were in prison as well (Dave’s brother was killed in prison). While all of those have a reason to be Dave’s target, I actually hope it is Tom for some reason since that will be a huge shock. Dave has been a great villain this season so I hope the writer’s give him a good wrapup at the end of this season and then let him go (don’t turn him into an Orson who was misunderstood).

I have one final thing to bring up about last night’s episode. I really want to know what is up with Desperate Housewives and big age gaps in their relationships this season. First there was Susan and Jackson. Then there is the Porter love story. Now Julie as an older love interest. I wonder if this was intentional or it just so happened that these three relationships were all formed in the same season.

Quotes:

Orson: “They probably went first because they have homework to do.”

Susan: “Let me enjoy my denial.”

Gaby: “There is no way we are letting grandma screwloose into our lives.”

Katherine: “I doubt Betty White saw that coming.”

Susan: “I might have blacked out when she said you were 40.”

Andrew: “Now can I be gay?”

Gaby: “And that is your right as a crazy rich lady.”

Gaby: “Sorry for the tip but I just lost $10 million.”

Carlos: “If I could see the exits I would run for them.”

brothers and sisters going once going twice 300x168 Rants and Raves (November 17th, 2008)Brothers and Sisters S3.E8 Going Once… Going Twice

Overall I thought last night’s episode of Brothers and Sisters was actually pretty good. That is probably at least partially due to the fact that there was not a single mention of Ryan in the entire episode. I don’t know if it is just me but I am glad for an episode without Ryan.

Without the weight of Ryan, the episode was able to be more lighthearted which made for a better episode. The episode had it’s fair share of humor (especially when Kevin stole Nora’s charity house at the auction). I also like that Saul was actually given some real time on the show for once. Saul really hasn’t gotten a lot of time on the show for quite a long time.

Quotes:

Scotty: “There’s not enough room in here to swing a cat.”

Saul: “Color me impressed.”

Nora: “Hello pot. Have you met kettle?”

Sara: “You might want to take a shower.”

Rebecca: “So he’s basically a Dr. Seus character?”

Rebecca: “Or are you just hoping for another Walker diner disaster?”

Sara: “I need you to stop me from killing Kitty.”

Nora: “Kevin bought my mansion.”

Saul: “Not if he was the last gay guy alive.”

Kevin: “I didn’t realize how amazing I was.”

Kitty: “No thanks to Operation Distract Kitty.”

amazing race 13 episode 8 Rants and Raves (November 17th, 2008)The Amazing Race S13.E8 I’m Like An Angry Cow

Last night’s episode of The Amazing Race was one of the best episodes of the season. I really liked the “Act Like Fools” detour. I thought it was funny seeing the contestants walk down the street in cow costumes in order to drink some milk and eventually walk themselves to the butcher (PETA probably wasn’t so happy about the task).

As far as Terence and Sarah being eliminated, I would have to say that I was surprised since I thought it was actually going to be a non elimination leg. Terence and Sarah lead to their own demise though. I have no idea why they went for a flash forward that was held at a restaurant since Terence was a vegetarian. They should have known that a disgusting food was going to be involved and it would most likely involve meat of some kind. Even though there are four teams left, the race is essentially down to three teams. I can’t imagine the frat brothers winning the race unless they have a perfect leg and everyone else encounters a lot of troubles.

the simpsons homer and lisa exchange cross words 243x300 Rants and Raves (November 17th, 2008)The Simpsons S20.E6 Homer and Lisa Exchange Cross Words

Overall I thought last night’s episode of the Simpsons was pretty solid. Lisa’s storyline was pretty bland and is a good example of how the Simpsons tend to run out of ideas at times. While I didn’t really like Lisa’s storyline I actually thought Homer’s was pretty funny. It was especially funny when Homer was haunted by the relationships that he destroyed.

Quotes:

Homer: “Have fun drinking you lemonaide, babies.”

Homer: “I’m afraid Lenny’s dead.”

Apu: “What is a four letter word for hero?”
Moe: “Hero”

Bart: “Your loco in the coco.”

Ghosts: “We are the spirits of the relationships you have ended.”

Homer (to a teddy bear after a tea party): “Can you drive me home? I am a little drunk.”

family guy tales of a third grade nothing 273x300 Rants and Raves (November 17th, 2008)Family Guy S7.E6 Tales of a Third Grade Nothing

I thought last night’s episode of Family Guy was pretty good. While I didn’t enjoy Brian and Stewie’s story at all, I thought Peter’s story was pretty good. I also liked the “dream sequences” including the Madden wedding service. I am left wondering though how he moved onto further grades if he never passed the third grade.
