Grey’s Anatomy S5.E8 These Ties That Bind
After last week’s abrupt departure of Dr. Hahn a lot of things have changed at Seattle Grace. I still disagree with the abrupt write off of Hahn (even though I really didn’t like Hahn). Since Hahn was replaced it was time to bring in two new characters. Replacing Hahn in cardio is Virginia Dixon (played by Mary McDonnell). At this point I really don’t have many thoughts either way on the character. She is definently quirky but I think the character is going to need some work before the possibility of becoming a regular. In my opinion the same goes for Sadie. Neither characters are bad additions to the show but neither really jump out either at this time.
One positive piece of news coming out this week for Grey’s Anatomy is the addition of Owen Hunt to series regular. So far I am liking Owen and I think he will be a good addition to the regular cast. I just hope Grey’s doesn’t fall into the same problems that have hit Heroes since the first season. Grey’s cast has really grown the last couple of seasons and I don’t think it can grow anymore. Shows can only have a certain amount of characters until it becomes distracting. If you have too many character you can’t focus enough on any of them and the show suffers.
As far as this week’s cases I thought they were pretty good. One thing that is getting on my nerves is the constant Denny sequences. I really liked Denny when he was still alive but he is getting really annoying know that he is dead. I could see Grey’s bringing Denny back for an episode or two but it is getting ridiculous. I don’t know why Grey’s just can’t let Denny go for good. Maybe Jeffrey Dean Morgan can then get a good lead role in a television show (I honestly don’t why he hasn’t got one yet).
Quotes:
Derek: “Good enough to kick both of us out of bed.”
Derek: “She’s your pre-Christina, Christina.”
Sadie: “Corpses don’t do that.”
Callie: “It’s exactly like Lincoln Logs.”
Sloane: “Maybe you were a oneabian.”
Sadie: “Who wants to stitch me up?”
Denny: “What the hell is that gooey thing they are taking out of him?”
Derek: “Keep little Sloane out of little Grey.”
Ugly Betty S3.E8 Tornado Girl
A solid episode of Ugly Betty in my opinion. There were some positives and some negatives to come out of the episode in my opinion.
We’ll begin with the positives. It’s good to see Marc and Amanda finally getting some real time on the show. I don’t know who came up with the brilliant idea of giving them pretty much nothing to do during the first episodes of the season. Amanda and Marc are two of the best characters on the show so I think the show should have used more of them instead of less. Another thing that I liked and was actually pretty funny was when Claire thought Daniel had a crush on Betty. While it might be funny at this time, I wouldn’t be surprised if the relationship didn’t happen before the show ended. I personally think it would most likely work.
There were some negatives in the episode as well. First of all I don’t like that it appears that Cliff is gone. I liked that Marc had a boyfriend especially since it actually made Marc a human being and brought more depth to his character. Maybe this will be corrected in the future but I don’t think it will be. Then there was Hilda’s storyline. I don’t know if it is just me but I am honestly sick and tired of Hilda’s storylines. I like Hilda but her storylines are getting redundant. It appears that Hilda is heading into another romance storyline (with the government official) and I think this is ridiculous. I guess the only storyline that the Ugly Betty writers can come up with for Hilda all revolve around romance.
Quotes:
Amanda: “Do disasters hate poor people?”
Amanda: “That’s only for unattractive gays.”
Wilhelmina: “Five words and I could make you pee.”
Wilhelmina: “I’m going to go hunting later. Feel free to walk in front of my gun.”
Hilda: “Where did you put you hats from your ugly hat phase?”
Wilhelmina: “Would it be too much for something with antlers?”
Warehouse Guy: “Your like a gnat with glasses.”
Justin: “And while you’re at it, get rid of Betty’s ugly hats.”
Supernatural S4.E9 I Know What You Did Last Summer
Another good episode of Supernatural even though it really wasn’t on par with other episodes this season. I was left wondering about two things after watching the episode though. First is that Sam/Ruby’s “relationship” is just getting creepy. I am guessing that a lot of Supernatural fans agree with me especially since the diehard fans seem to hate every single possible love interest.
The other thing I was left thinking about is how the angels in Supernatural could be so evil and yet still be angels. At this point the angels don’t appear to be much better than the demons that they are trying to stop. I can see that they are trying to stop the apocolypse but I don’t think angels would stoop to the lows that Castiel and other demons have so far this season.
Quotes:
Dean: “Demon Whiserer’s. That’s reliable.”
Dean: “I get back from hell and you BFF’s with a demon.”
Dean: “They lock you up when you hear angel radio?”
Demon (to Dean): “We were so close in hell.”
Sam: “This will definently get you a big fat Christmas bonus.”
Ruby: “Just a little patience and sobriety.”
Sam: “The first thing I learned is that I am a crappy student.”
Dean: “Sam, too much information.”
Dean: “Skip the nudity please.”
Dean: “I hope you’re here to help since we have had a lot of demon trouble today.”
Smallville S8.E9 Abyss
So far this season of Smallville has actually surprised me a lot. The show has rebounded after a couple of bad seasons and I actually wouldn’t mind another season of Smallville after this rebound season (I actually didn’t think this season should have been made).
While I have been impressed with this season, I really didn’t like last night’s episode. I especially didn’t like that they decided to have Chloe forget about Clark’s powers (hopefully this is temporary). The show is much better when at least one of the regular cast knows about Clark’s secret. Now there is no one left in the cast that knows Clark’s secret and I don’t like that idea. I liked how Chloe was able to help Clark when trouble arose. I guess that isn’t an option anymore. I wonder what the show will now do with Chloe especially since she can’t help Clark anymore until she regains her memory.
Quotes:
Chloe: “I know this looks a little wierd.”
Chloe: “My head just feels like a volleyball during the summer Olympics.”
Survivor S17.E8 The Brains Behind Everything
Overall I thought last night’s Survivor was pretty good (mostly due to a revitalization type season so far). First I have to say that Survivor golf is cool. Too bad it wasn’t with real golf clubs though. Some people might have had flashbacks to Lost island golf then though.
I personally wished the merge didn’t happen this week. I personally wished that they would remain teams longer this season. I guess that wasn’t meant to be. I also have some bad feelings that this season will turn out like so many other seasons where one side will just vote out the other side until they pick one another off. Hopefully this doesn’t happen this season because the main reason why this season has actually been pretty interesting is that the strategy has been pretty unpredictable.
One thing about this season that I don’t like is that it appears that the people I like most are pretty much against one another. At this point the only Survivors I can say that I actually like are Bob, Kenny and Matty. It’s too bad that they are on different sides of a power struggle. I would love it if they somehow could make an alliance but I really doubt that will happen.
