Cha$e S1.E1 Harbor 1.0
Since Cha$e premiered on Sci-Fi last night, I decided to start rants and raves off with my thoughts on Cha$e. While it isn’t groundbreaking television, I actually found it to be pretty entertaining. This might be due to the fact that I am a big video game fan, but I thought it was an interesting reality show. Obviously Cha$e isn’t for everyone but if you like cheesier reality shows I think you will enjoy Cha$e.
Despite liking the show I think the show could use some improvements. First I didn’t like the end game since it essentially comes down to whether who is lucky enough to guess where the exit point is. Whoever hides closest to the exit point will most likely win the game. I personally would keep playing the game until only one contestant remains. I would also keep shrinking the gameboard in order to make it harder for the contestants. Another idea I have includes puzzles throughout the location which gives clues to the exit point so players that are good at solving puzzles and don’t hide the whole game have an advantage over those that try to just hide the entire game.
I do have to give the show quite a bit of credit though since the show could have been extremely corny. I thought the editing was well done though which lead to Cha$e actually being a pretty enjoyable show. Let’s hope Cha$e continues to change things up because otherwise I fear that the show could get old pretty quickly.
Eli Stone S2.E4 Should I Stay or Should I Go?
Overall I thought last night’s Eli Stone was good but it just wasn’t up to par compared to most episodes. The problem I have had with the second season of Eli Stone is that it hasn’t been as magical as the first season. The second season has been much more serious than the first season. In the first season Eli had wacky visions and this season he has yet to have a really wacky vision.
This doesn’t mean that I am not happy with the second season of Eli Stone. It’s just that I have been a little disappointed this season. Eli Stone is still easily the best law show on television and I wish more people would actually watch the show. I guess it is too hard for people to watch a law show with uplifting cases when there are plenty of murder trials to go around on every other law show.
As far as this week’s developments I thought they were a mixed bag. I like the idea of the new firm that represents quality clients. I think it will also be interesting to see Jordan and Eli try to rebuild the firm. I question how it is going to work with Maggie and Matt joining the other law firm though. Hopefully Eli will at least be able to save Maggie from the dark side in time. Other developments included Taylor finding out that she is pregnant, and Maggie breaking up with her fiance. Hopefully this will give Eli and Maggie a chance even though it doesn’t seem likely at this point. Finally Eli and Matt helped defend a Pakistani woman who was going to be deported and sent back to Pakistan to her likely death. I thought the case was touching and a pretty good case overall.
Quotes:
Patti: “No one like your wife’s banana bread.”
Maggie: “Posner is like Darth Sidius.”
Matt: “Jesus mold, pass.”
Eli: “What’s with these two and the shower?”
Matt: “Were you not born with the compassion gene.”
Maggie: “Like a tropical beach party in your mouth.”
Taylor: “Okay Columbo. You got me.”
Fringe S1.E7 In Which We Meet Mr. Jones
After a pretty long break, Fringe finally returned to our television screens last night. While it wasn’t a great episode in my opinion, I thought it was a pretty good episode. The episode lacked the humor form previous episodes, but I like that the show is really starting to develop some more mythology. I have always liked shows with good mythology, and it’s good that we are starting to find out more about the pattern. This week (while facing off against a killer parasite) the team found out that there are actually pattern groups around the world. Obviously people are really dedicated to finding out more about the pattern since this week’s patient actually risked his life to just find the location of the “Gentleman” (whoever that is).
I like that Fringe is developing it’s mythology since that gives a show staying power. Let’s hope it can get it’s humor back though. At this point Fringe is easily the best new show of the season and will probably not have any competition until Dollhouse premieres this spring (with probably slim to no chance of success with regards to ratings).
Quotes:
Walter: “Do you have any gum?”
Peter: “I bet he would be thrilled with your diagnosis.”
Walter: “I would still really like some gum.”
Broyles: “You got superpowers I don’t know about?”
Peter: “Is it the fruit cocktail thing again?”
Walter: “He’s been shot in the head.”
Peter: “Is that a problem?”
Walter: “Yes it is.”
Walter (after machine malfunctions): “It was probably a good thing it wasn’t attached to your head.”
Broyles: “This can’t possibly be scientific.”
The Biggest Loser S6.E8
In what probably came as a surprise to no one (except the people in the house) all the eliminated contestants returned to the campus in order to earn a chance to get back onto the show. While I actually think this is a good idea for the show I don’t really like how it was implemented. If they were going to let someone in based on a challenge they should have added at least one contestant due to weight loss.
I can’t change the rules so I will leave it at that. As far as Ed getting back into the game I have mixed feelings. I actually liked Ed but the problem is that I don’t like Ed’s alliance. As a matter of fact Vicky is easily my least favorite Biggest Loser contestant of all time. I won’t get into the specifics but I hate how she is so arrogant and how she is playing the game way too hard. Saying that I can’t complain about Brady being eliminated. I guess Vicky needs to learn that if you continue to be cocky and think you are controlling the game, things will turn on you quickly. I can’t wait to see her reaction next week. Hopefully she will be joining her husband at home very very soon.
At this point you were probably wondering how I have not once mentioned a product placement. You really didn’t think I could get through an entire recap of a Biggest Loser episode without bringing up the terrible product placement. Yesterday’s episode reached a new low in my opinion. Bob actually held a competition with his team in order to see who could help him with the latest product placement (boy is that a great prize). I don’t know if it is just me but I think starting next season we will see the contestant’s shirts plastered with ads since that is pretty much the only thing NBC hasn’t resorted to yet.
House S5.E7 The Itch
Overall I thought last night’s episode of House was pretty average all around. There really wasn’t anything special about the case and unlike a lot of people I don’t really care either way about the Cuddy/House relationship.
One positive thing to come out of the episode is that it appears that House is actually going to start using Cameron and Chase again. I have no idea of who came up with the brilliant idea of almost writing them off the show. While they weren’t technically wrote off the show, their time on the show was minimalized and they actually didn’t even appear in every episode. While I actually like House’s new assistants I think the show could have done a better job giving House’s former assistants more time on the show.
House: “Formster and Camster kicking it old school.”
House: “I get better reception when your not here.”
House: “If the crazy fairy were here she could grant them.”
Cuddy: “I will be more careful with my tongue in the future.”
House: “Please get a girlfriend, a life or something.”
House: “There is a killer mosquito chasing me around my house.”
So what are you ranting and raving about in regards to the world of television?
