Monk S7.E14 Mr. Monk and the Bully
Overall I thought this week’s episode of Monk was one of the best episodes in quite some time. While at first the case seemed way too simple (I knew the “wife” was the killer), it threw in the perfect twist to make the case pretty good. While maybe it was just me but I didn’t see the evil twin twist coming. Monk’s recent cases have been a little too simple so I am glad that Monk threw a twist into the case for once.
While the case was pretty good, I thought the highlight of the episode was Monk dealing with his bully from grade school. First Monk tries to get a permission slip from Dr. Bell to not have to meet with him but Natalie forces him to go. Then Monk started panicking when he thinks the bully is going to give him another swirly. Then when Monk found out that the bully’s wife was cheating on him, he was overcome with joy. While I think it is kind of cruel to be happy about someone else’s misfortune, it was pretty funny to see how happy Monk was.
Other things that stood out:
- Monk trying to bribe the bartender with $2. I have never bribed someone before but I don’t know how you could ever think that $2 would be enough to bribe someone.
- Monk having a bunch of aprons at the ready in case something spills on one of them (last time I checked that is what they are for). Then when he gets a little speck on the apron he throws it away instead of getting it cleaned.
- Finally when they catch the evil twin and Disher brings up that he came up with the theory. The sad thing is that he probably did come up with the theory since he always has plenty of wacky theories. Then when they do catch the twins Disher wonders which one they should arrest (I think the one that almost drowned is a good guess).
Psych S3.E14 Truer Lies
Just like Monk, I thought this week’s episode of Psych was good. When Shawn and Gus take the case of a pathological liar, no one believes them but Shawn and Gus quickly find out that he is actually telling the truth about the killer assassins that are after him. While it wasn’t the most complicated case, I like that in the past two episodes Psych has really started returning to it’s wacky roots. While I don’t mind some more serious episodes, I prefer the wackier episodes.
Other things that stood out:
- Shawn playing golf at the police station. Even though I found it highly unbelievable, it was still pretty funny that Shawn still almost made his putt even with all the deflections.
- Shawn’s nickname for Gus (Holla Backatcha).
- The commercial during the episode that advertised for a tax service and all the things that Psych could write off on their taxes. I don’t know why more commercials don’t try to do this since it will engage viewers more.
- Shawn’s comments about how it would be better to escape on a llama instead of a lamb (when the police told hm that his client was on the lam).
