Missed Last Night’s Episode?:
, Amazon.com, ABC.com
As Pushing Daisies nears it’s series finale (only three more episodes remain), the anger about the show being canceled returns especially after such a great episode. While The Norwegians was different from pretty much every other episode of Pushing Daisies, it was another brilliant episode. It’s too bad that the show will be cut short just as the show is really hitting it’s stride in the second season. For those of you who didn’t see last night’s episode of Pushing Daisies I feel sorry for you since you are missing out on one of the best shows on television. For those of you who actually watch Pushing Daisies join me after the break for my thoughts on The Norwegians.
As the title of the episode clearly states, The Norwegians were the focus of this week’s episode. The Norwegians are a Norwegian crime solving team that share resemblances to the crime solving team of Emerson, Ned, and Chuck. After Emerson refuses to take Vivian’s case of trying to find Dwight (for obvious reasons), Vivian hires to Norwegians to try and find him. Their search brings them to the Pie Hole when they think Ned, Chuck, and Emerson are suspects.
While this week’s case wasn’t as wacky as other episodes (as a matter of fact no one was even killed in this episode), The Norwegians made up for anything lost from the normal Pushing Daisies formula. With their command center being named MOTHER to their funny Norwegian accents; I thought the Norwegians were a great addition to the universe. As a matter of fact I wish they actually were able to make another appearance but that obviously won’t happen because of the show being canceled.
One thing I am left feeling after this episode though is how bad I feel for Olive. She helps the gang without question and yet they can’t let her in on the secret. While she might not take the news well, she has already shown her loyalty to the group so I don’t know why that would magically change. Especially since the show is ending in three episodes, I hope in that time Olive finally gets to find out about Ned’s secret.
When it seemed like Ned, Chuck, and Emerson were about to be discovered, a mysterious stranger ended up saving them all by stealing Dwight’s body and creating a scene that looked like he died of natural causes. The stranger also helps Ned and Olive when MOTHER went off the cliff. In what came as somewhat of a surprise, instead of being Chuck’s father it was actually Ned’s father.
Boy was this a coincidence for me because just before the episode aired I was wondering whether the show was going to bring Ned’s father back before the series ended. Thinking of the possibility before the episode even aired, I actually came up with a good idea why he left Ned in the first place. I have a feeling that he has the same ability as Ned. I think an ability like that would be something you would pass onto your children. I think his father left wither because he thought he was responsible for killing Ned’s mother or he left Ned because he didn’t want Ned to ever find out about his ability. I am guessing that I am totally off base but there are my thoughts on the return of Ned’s father. Even though my theory will most likely be proven wrong, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
So with three episodes remaining I have to say that Pushing Daisies is really hitting it’s high point and it’s too bad that there are only three episodes remaining. Pushing Daisies fans now have to hope that there is good closure for the show. I have heard that there is especially after they changed the ending in post production. It’s just too bad that such a great show never got to tell it’s whole story.
So what were your thoughts on the Norwegian? Did you like the episode as much as I did? What do you think of Ned’s father’s disappearence and sudden reappearance? Finally what do you want to see out of the last three episodes of Pushing Daisies?
Quotes:

Emerson: “I don’t know didley or squat.”
