Psych S3.E5 Disco Didn’t Die, It Was Murdered (August 15th, 2008)

disco didnt die it was murdered Psych S3.E5 Disco Didnt Die, It Was Murdered (August 15th, 2008)Overall I thought this episode was a very solid episode of Psych. It had it’s funny moments but I wouldn’t call it one of Psych’s funniest episodes. The case was solid but not nearly as original as most of Psych’s cases. Since the episode had a 1970’s theme to it, I might have missed out on some things since I wasn’t alive in the 1970’s so there were probably jokes that were funny but I just didn’t get. Let’s now head to the recap.

The episode begins in 1978. A man named Eugene is making a bomb. Henry and some other police officers breakdown the door to his house and get him to put the bomb down. It turns out that the bomb was destined for the police headquarters so Henry is declared a hero for saving so many lives.

Back in the present Shawn has gotten a reporter to write a story about him. Shawn meets with Karen and Karen tells Shawn that the police department is opening up a bunch of old cases. Karen ends up giving Shawn the 1978 case where Henry stopped Eugene. Karen tells Shawn that he can’t let Henry help with the case since it is a conflict of interest since he solved the original case. Karen tells Shawn that if Henry works on the case that Shawn will be fired from the department.

Shawn and Gus sneak back to Psych and promise to try and keep Henry away from the case but that plan goes out the window quickly since Henry is already at Psych and he forces Shawn to let him help with the case. Henry tells Shawn that he know Eugene was responsible and he isn’t going to let him go free because of a technicality. Shawn, Henry and Gus head to the DA’s office and get the transripts from the case in order to find enought evidence to prove that Eugene was truly guilty.

In the transcripts they discover that there was a bunch of evidence that was never used in the case because the DA thought it wasn’t necessary since there was already such a strong case against Eugene. They look through all the evidence that wasn’t used and they find a pawn shop ticket. They head to the pawn shop and redeem the ticket for a receipt. It turns out that Eugene pawned off his car before he was arrested. Since Shawn doesn’t want to be caught working with Henry; Shawn, Henry and Gus all disguise themselves in 1970’s clothing.

They head to a junk yard where they find Eugene’s car. The owner of the junkyard won’t let them inspect the car unless they buy it. Shawn gets Henry and Gus to fork over some money to buy the house. They look through the car and Shawn notices a symbol on the windshield. Henry finds a hidden compartment in the car and finds an undeveloped roll of film in it. They get the film developed and they find out that Eugene was part of a militia group so he might have had partners. Henry decides to meet with one of his old infomants Puky (who Shawn and Gus keep making fun of based off his name). Puky tells them that Eugene was part of a group called the SAG (an anti-government agency). Puky tells them about about two of Eugene’s partners’ Derek and Melanie.

Henry wants to give up on the case since he is upset that he might have arrested the wrong man for the bombing. Shawn and Gus trick him into continuing the case by pretending they need his help for something else. They drive to Derek and Melanie’s house but when they approach (in Eugene’s old car) a car speeds away from the house. They chase it down and get it to stop. It turns out to be Derek and Melanie and they claim that they ran since they thought Eugene was after them. They tells Shawn and Gus that they used to be in the group with Eugene but they quit it immediately after Eugene was arrested. They both act strangely though so Shawn is suspicious of them. Before they leave the house Shawn notices the same symbol that was on Eugene’s car on a piece of their mail. It turns out that they all went to the same college.

Shawn then comes up with the idea that there must have been another member to the group and that the other member was a mentor to the other three members. The gang does some research and determines that they all shared a professor in college. They head to the university to try and find the professor but they are too late since the professor is already dead. The police show up and they determine that Eugene must have killed the professor in order to cover his tracks. Then Shawn (with the help of Henry) determines that there are chemicals missing and just enough to make another bomb.

The police rush to Derek and Melanie’s house and the police catch Eugene with the bomb. Shawn then pieces everything together and realizes that Eugene is not responsible for the professor’s murder or what happened 30 years earlier. Shawn thinks that Derek and Melanie set up Eugene so they would be able to finally get out of the group. They thought Eugene would be gone for good but when he was released from prison they had to frame him again in order to keep him in prison for good so they could get on with their lives. Shawn doesn’t really have any proof though so he decides to do something drastic and activates the bomb Eugene was caught with. Shawn knows whoever is guilty will disarm the bomb in order to safe themselves. It turns out that his plan works and Derek disarms the bomb. Derek and Melanie are arrested for what happened 30 years ealier and the murder of the professor. Henry thanks Shawn for his help finding the real bomber and righting his wrong from 30 years ago.

Juliet and Lassiter

Karen gives Juliet and Lassiter two cases. One involves a jewelry theft and one involves a fire at a plastic factory. Both want the jewelry theft and neither wants the fire. They end up giving the fire case to Buzz. Juliet and Lassiter regret their decision when they thought they found the stolen jewels but ended up breaking into a crate full of wild animals which beat them up pretty bad. Meanwhile Buzz determines that the fire at the plastic factory is connected to real life pirates. Juliet and Lassiter end up stealing the plastics case from Buzz and end up finding the pirates but aren’t able to arrest them since it is the Coast Guards jurisdiction.
