Finally after a season and a half, ABC finally decided to finally put Private Practice after Grey’s Anatomy (I thought they should have done that from the beginning. So did the change in time and day make a difference? While Private Practice is still not even close to as good as Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice has actually come quite a far way since the beginning of the first season and last night’s episode was the perfect example of why it has turned the corner.
While Private Practice still has it’s problems, Private Practice has mostly got it’s biggest problem out of the way. The biggest problem with the first season of Private Practice was that the show seemed like a bunch of grownups acting like children. Even Addison who acted like an adult on Grey’s Anatomy was suddenly turned into an immature doctor when she joined Private Practice. After about a season it appears that the writers have finally recognized this fact and are actually making the cast act like adults. Maybe the same can be done to the immature doctor’s of Grey’s Anatomy? (I am not getting my hopes up.)
So this week’s main case featured Cooper and one of his old clients. A mother takes her son into meet with Cooper since he is sick. It turns out that he has the measles and since his mother refuses to give him the measles vaccine (sinceĀ she thinks it will make him autistic) the child keeps getting sicker until he eventually ends up dying. Cooper is then forced to vaccinate the woman’s other child even without her permission. Overall I thought this was a pretty good story and it was also touching. I like that even though Cooper is a pediatrician, the show is really starting to let him start acting like an adult instead of a child like earlier on in the series.
The second major storyline this week featured Addison, Naomi, and Wyatt working to try and get a woman pregnant that almost died in her fight to beat cancer. I don’t know why but I really was never into this storyline. Maybe it’s because I really don’t care for Wyatt or maybe it was just that the storyline was pretty boring. As it turns out, Addison isn’t able to get the woman pregnant. I don’t know if it is just me but I am getting a vibe that Addison and Wyatt will eventually get together which I personally wouldn’t really like.
Finally three more minor storylines were also included in this episode. Dell and his former girlfriend (and mother of his child) work through some troubles on what to do with their child. So far I think the storyline of Dell as a father has been pretty good. Hopefully it will continue in the future. Pete and Violet continue their “relationship” and everyone in the practice finds out about them. I don’t know why but I don’t really buy the Violet/Pete relationship. I don’t it will last much longer anyway so it probably doesn’t really matter. Finally Sam hooks up with the head of one of the medical organizations that check out the practice after the measles breakout.
Quotes:
Pete: “You’re a pediatrician, so it’s like your half a doctor.”
Addison: “It’s not blackmail. It’s extortion.”
Naomi: “You dodged hurricane Pete.”
Your Thoughts:
So what are your thoughts on the first Private Practice after the time and day shift? Do you think it will help Private Practice being after Grey’s Anatomy?
