Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie was originally released on DVD back in 2005. With Halloween under two months away, Disney is re-releasing the film in a limited edition set that includes a plush Pooh dressed in a Tigger outfit. While the film is childish, and I don’t know how much extra you actually get with the limited edition set; Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie is not a bad purchase.

Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie follows Pooh and the gang as they celebrate Halloween. It’s Lumpy’s first Halloween in the 100 Acre Wood. Lumpy is scared of the holliday but when Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Lumpy and Roo have to do something to save the celebration. They decide to hunt down the elusive Gabloon who grants any wish if you are able to catch it. If they are successful they might just save Halloween for the whole 100 Acre Wood.

Just like pretty much every Pooh movie, this film is for children. I doubt that comes as a shock to anyone. It is not a terrible film and has its moments but the film just doesn’t work for adults. It is pretty cheesy and just all around a movie designed exclusively for children. If you really really like children’s movies you can probably still like the film but everyone else will probably be pretty bored by this very simplistic movie. Since I don’t have any children I can’t gauge how they would enjoy the film but my educated guess would assume that children should like the film.

As far as the special features are concerned, they are essentially for kids only. The special features include a couple games and some things to help plan a Halloween party. The games are so simplistic that unless you are playing the games with small children you are not going to enjoy them. Children should enjoy them but I doubt any parents really would. The party planning features aren’t really anything special. A more detailed look at the special features:

  • Trick or Re-Treat: A maze type game that is meant only for children since it is way to simplistic to hold any adult’s or older children’s attention.
  • Pass the Pumpkin: Essentially a game like musical chairs except that you pass a pumpkin around the room instead of using chairs.
  • Pooh’s Boo! Bingo: Your typical game of bingo with the DVD randomly picking numbers that correspond to game sheets that you can print off.
  • Heffalump Halloween Party Planner
  • DVD-Rom Features: Using a computer you are able to print out party invitations, recipes, and designs to create your own “Jaggedy Lattern.”

One thing that is very important to your decision on whether to purchase this limited edition is that a regular DVD version was released in 2005. At this time you can pick up a copy of the regular edition pretty cheap. I really don’t know how much difference there is between the two versions. You obviously get the bonus Pooh plush which is pretty nice but I don’t know if it warrants a purchase of the limited edition DVD.  I don’t know if there is any differences as far as special features since I don’t know what special features the regular DVD contains. If anyone knows, a comment on the subject would be appreciated by people thinking about picking up the limited edition. If the special features aren’t different I would recommend picking up the regular version. If they are different I think it comes down to how much you care about the new/additional special features.

Overall Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie does a pretty good job at what it is supposed to do, entertain kids. Adults  most likely will be bored by the film but the movie is for children so what do you expect. If you don’t have small children or aren’t a huge fan of Pooh bear I would recommend a pass on this DVD. If you are a fan of Pooh bear or have smaller children though I would recommend the film. You need to decide which version is best for you though.
