Back in the 1960’s and to this day the Peanuts franchise has brought enjoyment to children and adults. With classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown the Peanuts gang have been a part of some of the most classic holiday TV specials. Now fans of the series can get their hands on the classic Peanuts specials from the 1960’s.
The Peanuts 1960’s Collection contains all six of the Peanuts TV specials from the 1960’s. These specials include: A Charlie Brown Christmas; Charlie Brown’s All-Stars; It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; You’re In Love, Charlie Brown; He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown; and It Was A Short Summer, Charlie Brown.
I really wouldn’t consider myself a huge Peanuts fan but I enjoyed these TV specials. Obviously if you are a big Peanuts fan you have either already seen all the specials but if you haven’t you should enjoy them all. Some are classics while others are not as well known. A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown are the best two specials in my opinion.
Since these cartoons were created in the 1960’s it is pretty obvious that the video quality isn’t perfect. The video quality isn’t a huge problem though and you can’t really be that upset about the video quality not being perfect since only so much can be done with older videos.
One thing you do get in this collection is a special feature that looks at the work of Vince Guaraldi. It’s not the most entertaining feature but if you like Vince Guaraldi’s music on the Peanuts’ specials you should get some enjoyment out of the feature.
The decision on purchasing this dvd collection comes down to two things. First are you a Peanuts fan? If you are not a Peanuts fan and you don’t have any children that are young enough to enjoy Peanuts, you probably shouldn’t pick up the Peanuts 1960’s Collection. The second factor is whether you already own the tv specials. I don’t know if all the specials have been released before on dvd (I know some have been), but if you already own the specials that you are interested in there is no reason to pick up this set.
With that said if you are a Peanuts fan and don’t already own these specials, this set is a must buy.
