By the time most shows hit their sixth seasons, they tend to be on their decline. Very few shows can sustain their peak past six seasons. By the time the sixth season comes around most shows are on the decline and nearing their end. In the case of One Tree Hill, I think the end is drawing near.
Season six of One Tree Hill is the year of dreams. Nathan tries a basketball comeback. Haley tries to have some musical success. Peyton just tries to find happiness. “Mouth” tries to find a decent job. Brooke tries to save Clothes Over Bro’s. Lucas tries to find the right girl. That and much more can be expected in season six of One Tree Hill.
Overall season six was not bad but you could tell that the series is starting to get a little old. One Tree Hill is really starting to run out of story ideas. Shows can only last so long before they start to get old. One Tree Hill season six just does not compare with the first couple seasons of the show. Fans of the show will probably still enjoy the sixth season but I don’t think they will enjoy it as much as earlier seasons.
Overall the special features are pretty average overall. You get seven different special features which is pretty good for a DVD set but most of them weren’t that original or entertaining in my opinion. I am also not a huge One Tree Hill fan so that might be part of the reason why I didn’t think they were that great. If you are a big One Tree Hill fan you should enjoy them quite a bit more. Here is what you can expect as far as special features:
- Unaired Scenes-Deleted scenes from nine episodes. I personally have never been a fan of deleted scenes and that is no different in this DVD set.
- Commentaries-Commentaries on episodes “You Have to Be Joking” and “Searching for a Former Clarity”. Commentaries include the cast and crew.
- OTH Goes Back in Time-A feature looking at how the 1940’s were recreated in the episode “We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me)”. Length: 17 Minutes
- Slammin’ with OTH-A look at the sport of SlamBall. Length: 11 Minutes
- OTH Celebrity Soundtrack-A look at the musical artists who provided music for the season including a spotlight on the USO Concert. Length: 21 Minutes
- OTH The Directors’ Debut-A look at Chad Michael Murray’s, Bethany Joy Galeotti’s, and James Lafferty’s first time in the director’s chair. Length: 13 Minutes
- Gag Reel-Your typical gag reel that seems to appear on every single DVD set nowdays. Length: 4 Minutes
Simply put your decision on picking up the sixth season of One Tree Hill comes down to three things. First if you haven’t seen the first five seasons I don’t see the point skipping ahead since these type of shows are best enjoyed if you watch them from the beginning. Second for people who have already seen the season, I think you need to want to rewatch the episodes to get your money’s worth from this DVD set. The special features aren’t bad but they aren’t worth a seperate purchase. Finally if you have watched the first five seasons and haven’t seen the sixth yet I would recommend picking up the sixth season on DVD. The sixth season wasn’t great but if you enjoyed the first five seasons I can’t imagine you not liking the sixth as well.
