Only two more days until the season five premiere of Lost. I bet you can’t wait. I know I couldn’t wait. So I know most of you will hate me for saying this but I have actually been lucky enough to see the first three episodes of the fifth season of Lost (Because You Left, The Lie, and Jughead). I actually thought about waiting till the episodes aired on television but I really don’t have the willpower and ended up waiting possibly 15 minutes to watch the episode. The good new though is that since I have seen the first three episodes, I can share my thoughts with you and possibly a couple spoilers. I don’t dare give you any big spoilers though or I fear ABC will either send the Smokey or their lawyers to my house for a little talk. I honestly don’t want to feel ABC’s wrath so I won’t be spoiling much that hasn’t already been spoiled. So feel free to read this review without fear that I will spoil anything in the first three episodes. So without further ado, let me explain why even thought the wait might be painful it will be well worth it for all you Lost fans.
So I know a lot of Lost fans want to spill the beans about the new season but I am not going to do that for two reasons. Number 1 was already mentioned since I don’t want to breach ABC’s trust in letting us see the first three episodes early. The second reason is that even if I tried to explain what happened in the first three episodes, probably at least half of you would have no idea what in the world I was talking about. Some of you might even think that I was losing my mind or just plain making things up.
Lost fans are probably now freaking out that the twist sucks or it is way too confusing or far fetched. Well Lost fans can calm down since I thought the twist was great and opened up a lot of storytelling opportunities for the show. As far as the story being far-fetched I honestly wouldn’t say it is anymore far fetched than anything else that has happened on Lost. Finally is the new storyline confusing? I wouldn’t say it is confusing but I would definitely recommend that Lost fans not miss even a single second or they could become lost. That probably shouldn’t be a concern since would any Lost fan really miss a second of the show.
So with that out of the way, let’s discuss some other questions Lost fans must have about this season? (If you have other questions I have no problem answering them if you leave them in the comments section. Just remember that I might not be able to answer them that well since I am going to avoid spoilers at all costs).
Which of the first three episodes is the best? I honestly would say that all three episodes are great. They are different in some ways though. The first two episodes are more of a continuation of season four combined with some explanation of what happened to the island. The third episode really focuses on what is new in season five. The episodes are surprisingly action packed and actually contain two of the most action packed sequences in Lost history.
What in the world happened to the island? This is probably the top question on pretty much every Lost fan’s mind. While I am not going to tell you what happened to the island, I will tell you that you will find out in the first episode (with further explanation in episodes 2 and 3). I personally loved the twist and think it should lead to quite a few more questions being answered this season.
Are we finally going to get some answers this season? While I can’t guarantee that there will be a ton of answers this season, if the first three episodes are any indication this will definitely be a year of answers. This appears to be the year of the island/others/Dharma and it appears that we should get quite a few answers for all three.
What about the Oceanic Six? When are they going to get back to the island (if they even do)? Well I can tell you that they don’t get back to the island in the three episodes that I saw. As far as their storylines are concerned, they mostly focus on their current lives as well as some of their past since leaving the island. It seems like we will find out more about them this season by their current actions not their past actions.
Does that mean that the flashbacks/flashforwards are gone? I wouldn’t say that they are gone for good but it appears that they have changed in some ways. Gone are the days were we see normal flashbacks and flashforwards. They are more integrated into the current storyline than they were in the past. While it is sad to see the flashbacks/flashforwards gone, it seems like it was the right time to do it and the show really hasn’t lost anything this season.
Which characters seem to be getting a larger/smaller role this season? It appears that Sawyer, Daniel and Desmond will be happy this season since it appears that they will all have bigger roles this season. Desmond pretty much gets his own storyline which seems very important to the storyline as a whole. Meanwhile Sawyer and Daniel get more time now that there are less people on the island. The rest of the cast appears to probably getting about as much time as usual except for possibly Jack who appears to be getting less time this season.
Is Jin dead or alive? I can’t say.
Any new character make an appearance or old faces return? Well I am going to only touch on this question but the simple answer is yes. There are a couple of new characters (none of them are major though). Some old faces return as well. One person that returns is Richard Alpert and he appears to actually have a pretty big role this season. There are also a couple other old faces that return and one that I can honestly say was a huge surprise to me.
So that is it. If you have other questions feel free to leave a comment and I will try to answer it as long as answering it won’t spoil anything. Just think Lost fans, you have only two more days to wait. I’ll leave you with this statement. The next two days will suck waiting for Lost to return but come Wednesday night it would have all been worth it.

Thanks for this! I hope you have a great day!
