Lost S5.E10 He’s Our You
Thirty five or so minutes into last night’s episode I was pretty disappointed with the episode. It was still a great episode (Lost really can’t have a bad episode after all) but it was heading towards being the worst episode of the season. Then came the final five minutes or so. While they didn’t totally redeem the episode they improved the episode from an average episode to a good episode of Lost.
Since it was easily the best part of the episode I have to first bring up the escape and subsequent shooting of young Ben. I have to say that I was shocked. It’s not like I couldn’t have seen it happen (I actually brought up the idea after last week’s episode) but I was still shocked when it actually happened. I never thought it would actually happen since who would think a network would approve a a series regular shooting a child.
It does bring up a pretty good question though. Would you have done the same thing if you were in Sayid’s place? Would you shoot young Ben in order to prevent his future deeds from occuring? I personally couldn’t do it especially since Daniel said that the future can’t be changed by anything that happened in the past. Even if the past could change the future I think there probably could have been a better way of solving the problem. You could see that Ben was abused by his father so I think you could maybe have changed his future just by getting him away from his father at an earlier age. That is just my thought though.
How big of role will Ben being shot actually play in the big scheme of things. Obviously the present day Ben is not dead. There is no way that the show would get rid of Ben. If they are going to kill Ben off they are going to have one of the cast kill the present day Ben. I also can’t see Ben dying till at least next season since he is so important to the series. So is the younger Ben actually dead? It sure looks like it but I doubt it. Especially since Daniel told us all that the future cannot be changed. Either he will be saved by a Dharma member or the island will bring him back from the dead. My guess is the later since it would lead toward Ben eventually becoming the Other’s leader.
In the rest of the episode we find out how Sayid found his way back to the island. In my opinion this was mostly filler and really didn’t provide any shocking twists. Most of the events that occured most fans deduced themselves and I think this episode was mostly used to confirm those thoughts. I do think we haven’t seen the last of Sayid’s story though. I just can’t believe the bounty hunter was hired by one of Sayid’s victims. It just has Ben’s hands all over it. I will be shocked if Ben truly wasn’t behind hiring the bounty hunter since he was one of the only people that knew where Sayid was at that current time.
Finally a couple last thoughts on this week’s episode:
- It’s just so fitting that Hurley is one of the Dharma chefs. At least Dharma finally hired someone for a job that they would actually be good at (they definitely could have made better hiring choices for Juliet, Kate, and Jack).
- Maybe it is just me but I love when Lost occasionally has one of the cast tell their wacky tale so far. I find it funny that no one ever believes them even though they always tell the truth. I guess that just truly shows how strange Lost has become and how the writers aren’t afraid of admitting that fact.
- I am guessing that Sawyer and Juliet’s “honeymoon” is going to come to a crashing halt very soon. It’s too bad since at this point I would prefer Sawyer and Juliet together rather than Sawyer and Kate.
Your Thoughts: Is young Ben really dead? Was Ben behind hiring the bounty hunter? Is Sawyer and Juliet’s days numbered? Would you do what Sayid did if you knew you could stop what Ben would eventually do in the future?
