Lost S5.E3 Jughead LOST - LOST, Season 5 - Jughead, abclogo Lost S5.E3 Jughead

Having seen the episode two weeks ago, I have had to wait patiently to discuss what happened in Jughead. That was so hard to do since Jughead was such a great episode. With some pretty big revelations, this episode was huge in my opinion. With only three episodes down, if these first three episodes are any indication; this will be an amazing season of Lost. So after the break, lets discuss the revelations of the episode and develop some theories of what we can expect in future episodes.

Desmond Quest for Daniel’s Mother: After seeing a scene of Desmond’s son, Charlie (great name by the way) being born, Desmond starts his quest to find Daniel’s mother at Oxford. Desmond heads off to Oxford and can’t find any information on Daniel. Desmond thinks the university is hiding something so he finds Daniel’s old laboratory. Desmond searches his lab and doesn’t find much. He does find out that the university was trying to cover up his existence though.

He also finds out that Daniel hurt a woman with one of his experiments. To this day the woman (Theresa) still goes in and out of comas. Supposedly after the accident he just abandoned her. Charles Widmore stepped in and offered to pay all of her medical bills. While I don’t have a strong theory about this storyline, I have a feeling that it has something to do with Charlotte. I have no idea why though. Desmond ends up meeting with Charles Widmore and asks him where Daniel’s mother is. Charles helps Desmond but he tells him to keep Penny safe. Desmond wants to just abandon his quest but Penny realizes that he will never let it go so they decide to head off to LA. This storyline is really shaping up into a great storyline. Well it is kind of odd that a character that wasn’t even in the first season is playing such a huge role this season, what can you really complain about especially since Desmond is a great character.

Weapons of Mass Destruction: While Daniel, Miles and Charlotte are walking in the woods they are ambushed by some Others who take them back to their base. While walking Miles senses four recently buried soldiers which include one soldier who died from radiation poisoning. Daniel, Miles, and Charlotte pretend to be part of the US military in order to keep up appearances. Supposedly the Others had some complications with the military. When they invaded their territory, the Others fought back. They also are in control of a nuclear bomb that is leaking radiation. Daniel examines the bomb and tells the Others to just bury it and everything will be ok. How the Others got a nuclear bomb is just another question in an already long list of questions that are yet to be answered. Time shifts again and everyone is brought back to the present day.

Locke’s Quest to Find Richard: Locke, Sawyer, and Juliet interrogate the Others they captured in the previous episode. They end up tricking one of the captives to bring them to the rest of the Others. Locke meets up with Richard. While with Richard, Locke actually meets the young Charles Widmore who appears to have been an Other before he left the island for some reason. Obviously he wants to go back for some reason. Locke tells Richard about everything that happens in the future. He also tells him to visit with him when he was a child. Locke isn’t able to find out how to get off the island though since time shifts again. Well I have no idea how Locke gets off the island but it must happen somehow since he does eventually have to die.

Charlotte’s Health Problems: Charlotte continues to have problems with her health. At the end of the episode Charlotte collapses. Too bad for Daniel especially since he finally professed his love for Charlotte. While we are left to assume the worst for Charlotte, I honestly don’t think she is dead. First of all she has quite a bit of backstory left. Why was she hunting Dharma artifacts? With these questions unanswered I don’t know how Lost could kill off Charlotte.

Your Take: What did you think of tonight’s episode? Do you agree with me that it is the best episode of the season so far? Are you curious as to why Charles Widmore wants to get back to the island after being on the island when he was a young man? What do you think happened with Daniel’s failed experiment? Have any theories about what is going on?

Quotes:

Penny: “You also left out how Grandpa sent a boat to kill all of daddy’s friends.”

Desmond (about the island): “Why in God’s name would I want to go back there?”

Locke: “Maybe the more important question is when the hell was I.”

Sawyer: “Who taught you Latin?”
Julier: “Others 101.”

Sawyer: Maybe I should have said it in my secret language.”

Miles: “A hydrogen bomb? Seriously?”

Locke (about Richard): “How old is he?”
Juliet: “Old.”

Soldier: “Are they from the future too?”

Richard: “I sure don’t want to contradict myself.”
