Lost S5.E2 The Lie

lost the lie Lost S5.E2 The Lie

Missed the episode? You can see it here: LOST - LOST, Season 5 - The Lie, ABC.com

Just like the first hour of the Lost season premiere, I thought the second hour (The Lie) was great. While there is the possibility that the rest of the season won’t be able to keep up the rapid pace of the first two episodes, at this point I have to say that this is definitely turning into a great season of Lost. And guess what. Next week’s episode is even better than the two episodes this week.

Recap:

Off the Island:

After escaping the island the Oceanic Six have to decide about whether to lie about the island. Everyone seems on board except for Hurley who never wanted to lie in the first place. Hurley is forced to agree to the lie though. Back in the present Hurley is on the run trying to avoid the police while looking for help for Sayid (who at this point is passed out). Hurley ends up being pulled over by the police but it is just another one of his hallucinations. Ana Lucia tells Hurley that he needs to be careful or he will be captured by the police.

Hurley stops by a gas station in order to change shirts (Hurley ends up buying the most ridiculous shirt imaginable). Hurley then returns to his home where he convinces his father to help him. His father covers for him when the police arrive. Hurley’s father ends up sneaking Sayid past the police who are watching the house. He takes Sayid to Jack and Jack revives him. Meanwhile at the house Hurley explains everything that happened to his mother and surprisingly she believes everything even though I know I wouldn’t have believed him. Ben ends up showing up at Hurley’s house. Hurley refuses to go with Ben and instead turns himself into the police.

Meanwhile Ben shows us that he truly has people everywhere when he meets some of his fellow “others” at a butcher shop. He drops Locke’s body off there. Ben then heads to a laboratory where he meets the time traveling woman from Desmond’s “dream”. While this isn’t a given, I am assuming that the woman is Daniel’s mother. She tells Ben that he has only 70 hours in order to get everyone back to the island or they will never be able to go back.

Finally Kate ends up meeting with Sun. Sun suggests that Kate should do whatever it takes to keep Aaron safe instead of just running away. Kate thinks she is crazy and ends up leaving and continues her life on the run.

On the Island:

The survivors try to build a fire while they are waiting for the next time shift. Daniel tells the other survivors that they can’t escape unless he finds out where they are in time. When night comes around, Neil (the most annoying survivor ever) ends up being shot by a bunch of flaming arrows. The rest of the survivors have to run into the jungle in order to survive the flaming arrow barrage. Juliet and Sawyer end up being captured by two men who claim that the island is there’s. Locke ends up saving both of them and they hold the men captive hoping to get information out of them.

My Thoughts:

The biggest revelation in this week’s episode in my opinion was when Ben met the woman at the end of the episode. Maybe I am just crazy but I think that woman is the same woman that appeared in that one time traveling experience Desmond had. I also think that she must be Daniel’s mother. I am probably totally off base here but those are my thoughts at this point.

Otherwise I thought Hurley’s storyline was hilarious. Maybe it was just me but I thought Hurley’s “I heart Shitzu’s” shirt was hilarious. Then there was the scene where he tried to explain everything that happened on the island to his mother. He obviously sounded crazy and with a story like that I don’t blame anyone for thinking he is crazy. Hurley’s explanation truly did show how wacky Lost’s storyline has been though.

Your Thoughts:

What were your thoughts on the second episode of Lost’s fifth season? Did you think Hurley’s explanation of what happened on the island was as funny as I thought it was? Do you think the woman Ben met at the end of the episode is actually Daniel’s mother and the woman form Desmond’s time traveling experience?

Quotes:

Ana Lucia: “What if I were real?”

Ana Lucia: “Libby say hi.”

Miles: “I think it’s Mr. Wizard.”

Gas Station Attendant: “It looks like you heart them.”

Hurley: “Is he breathing?”

Hurley’s Mother: “Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?”
