Lost: Jack the Janitor

Lost S5.E9 Namaste

After a week off it’s nice to have Lost back. This week’s episode wasn’t the greatest and it didn’t really answer any questions, but it really set up some things that will play a crucial role in future episodes. Even without any game changing moments, this week’s episode had plenty that stood out:

• I have to admit that when it was revealed that Jack would be a janitor I laughed out loud. I am guessing that Sawyer had some say in that assignment. I do question Dharma’s recruiting techniques though. Currently they have a doctor as a mechanic and also a janitor. You would think they could have found a better job for Juliet and Jack. They must not have a skill set test before handing out assignments. Now the question is what Hurley’s job is. I am personally hoping for chef/cook.
• I like that the leadership torch has been passed from Sawyer to Jack. I never found Jack to be that great of leader and Sawyer’s comments on his leadership were right on. Things should be interesting with Sawyer now in charge since surprisingly Sawyer seems to be a much calmer and more rational leader.
• Where in the world is Daniel? After being featured earlier in the season he has figuratively and apparently literally disappeared. Obviously he is not with the gang in the 1970’s Dharma. I think his current whereabouts comes down to two possibilities. First Dharma might have kicked him out after catching him doing an experiment or trying to get off the island. Second Daniel might have either been able to successfully get back to the present day or get off the island entirely. There is obviously something important about his whereabouts since it seems like the show has made it pretty obvious that Daniel appears to be missing.
• I question why all the gang except for Sun was transported into the past. I hope the show gives us a reason other than just keeping Sun and Jin away for a longer period of time. Hopefully there is a good reason behind their seperation.
• Meeting young Ben again should bring some very interesting storylines to the table. I wonder if any of the Oceanic Six would actually think about doing something to him if they find out his true identity. I doubt any of them would do anything to hurt a kid, but some of them truly hate Ben. It also brings up a question on what would happen if Ben was able to get back to 1970’s and meet the younger version of himself. I wonder how many time space continuum problems that would bring up. I guess things couldn’t get any worse than jumping through time and space.
• Why did Sayid have to originally be seperated from the rest of the gang? Maybe if his “incarceration” leads us to finding out more about the “hostiles”/”others” I won’t mind it but at this point I question the decision. Just like with Sun, I want to know why Sayid didn’t get transported to the same place as Hurley, Jack, and Kate.
• Finally I want to know what Locke is now supposed to do that he is back on the island. I am guessing his storyline will hook up with Sun as she tries to get back to the 1970’s. Otherwise I hope there is some plan left for Locke.
