Lost S5.E6 316 
If this episode should show the Oceanic Six anything, they should now know that they shouldn’t tempt fate. Obviously if the island doesn’t want you to leave it will find it’s own unique way of bringing you back even if it results in bringing down another plane.
While parts of this week’s episode were unbelievable, once again Lost showed why season five has been a great season of television.
I have to say that I am glad that the Oceanic Six are back on the island. While their storylines off the island weren’t bad, this season I have preferred the on island storylines. Now that the gang is back on the island we actually have a couple things to look forward to. First we can see them adjust to the time shift. We also can find out why Kate, Hurley, and Sayid ended up getting on the flight in the first place.
While I thought the recreating the original Oceanic flight was a little unbelievable, I was satisfied with it being the way the Oceanic Six get back to the island. It was pretty amazing how similar things ended up being though. As mentioned on other sites some of the many similarities include: Jack carrying a personal letter (just like Sawyer on the first plane), Sayid taking Kate’s place as the prisoner, Kate possibly being pregnant (to replace Claire), Hurley and the guitar (probably one of Charlie’s guitars), and how Frank Lapidus was supposed to be the pilot the first time around and this time actually being the pilot.
While on the topic of Frank, I just loved it when he saw all the other survivors on the plane and just assumed that they wouldn’t be making it to Guam. I just wonder why no one else thought it was suspicious especially since the Oceanic Six are supposed to be celebrities.
Finally this episode showed how Ben has got to be one of the most complex characters on television. You can never really know if he is evil or good. While he does more evil than good, he does have some redeemable characteristics as well. That is why I love the character. At times he tends to show compassion and other times he could care less about other people (for example why he didn’t care about what happened to the others on the plane).
A couple theories I have include:
- Why did Sayid, Hurley, and Kate end up on the fateful flight to get back to the island? I think Hurley was told by one of his ghosts/hallucinations (most likely Charlie) to go back to the island. I think the law just caught up with Sayid after his murderous spree for Ben. As far as Kate I have no idea why she changed her mind. I am assuming she left Aaron with his grandmother but something must have persuaded her to do it. I egerly anticipate finding out how these three ended up on the plane.
- Jin being part of Dharma really didn’t surprise me. Ever since we saw Daniel working for Dharma I had a feeling that the gang would eventually stay in the Dharma days and either join Dharma or go undercover with them. I am assuming when Locke turned the wheel he fixed the time skipping problem. The real question is why the gang ended up joining Dharma. Was it either because there were no better options or do they have some plan?
- I have two theories regarding Ben’s beatdown and one is pretty depressing. I think either Ben killed (or tried to kill) Penny or Charles Widmore (or his men) tried to kill Ben. I would put more money on trying to kill Penny but I am not ruling out Charles Widmore since even though Ben is evil, Charles Widmore isn’t any better.
- Now that Locke’s body is back on the island I think he will either come back to life or he will become Jacob (since Jacob recently took Christian’s shape and Locke supposedly was taking Christian’s place). I would prefer that Locke just came back to life. Locke has always been the believer on the island and I can’t see the show keeping him dead when they reveal more of the secrets regarding the island. By the way Locke’s suicide note was perfect in my opinion since it shows Locke’s faith in the island even in death.
