Missed Last Night’s Episode?: How I Met Your Mother - How I Met Your Mother, Season 4 - Little Minnesota, Amazon How I Met Your Mother S4.E11 Little Minnesota, CBS.com

Overall I thought the episode was good but it could have been better. With the prospects of Barney pursuing Ted’s sister I was expecting a hilarious story and I was left with a good story. Surprising the subplot with Marshall and Robin was actually the best part of the episode. So for those of you who haven’t seen the episode yet, get to it. For those of you who have continue on to read what I have to say about the last How I Met Your Mother of 2008.

We’ll begin with the main storyline of Ted’s sister coming to town. Obviously Ted tries to keep his sister away from Barney (who wouldn’t) and Barney actually has never seen her. That hasn’t stopped him from making up a Christmas song each and every year about how he wants to sleep with her. Full lyrics of the songs can be found at CliqueClack.com. I thought the songs were hilarious and I am actually sad that a couple more years worth of songs couldn’t have been added.

Barney eventually finds out that Ted’s sister (Heather) is in town so he reveals himself to the gain with his evil swivel chair (hilarious in my opinion). Ted doesn’t trust his sister with Barney so he tells him to leave Heather alone. Barney ends up giving her a job offer though so Heather has an interview at Barney’s office. Lily ends up seeing them together and since she can’t keep a secret she tells Ted. It turns out that they didn’t sleep together but Barney and Heather have no problem teasing Ted with a bunch of sexual innuendo until they finally tell him the truth. Heather is upset that Ted doesn’t trust her and Ted has to sign her lease for a New York apartment in order to win her back.

The main reason I was disappointed with this week’s episode is that this storyline could have been much funnier. There was the potential to be hilarious and yet the concept was given up to quickly. More time should have been spent with Barney pursuing Heather and they pretending that they had slept together. Even though I thought the story could have been better, it was still a good story.

As I mentioned earlier, the funnier story this week was Marshall’s and Robin’s. Marshall shows Robin his “Minnesota Bar” since she is missing Canada. As a Wisconsinite (and eastern neighbor to Minnesota)  I have to say that these scenes were hilarious. Also as a huge Packer fan it is always great to laugh at the rival Vikings. There was more than just that though. It was hilarious to see Robin pretend to be from Minnesota despite everyone making fun of Canadians. Then when Marshall took Robin to the Canadian bar, the whole storyline paid off. From the Canadians actually being scared of the dark to Marshall singing (not very well) “Let’s Go to the Mall” on the karaoke machine, this was a hilarious storyline and was what made this episode.

So How I Met Your Mother is done for 2008. Now we only have to wait till 2009 for more episodes. We also get to find out what the show is going to do with Alyson Hannigan’s and Cobie Smulder’s pregnancies. I expect big things for the show in 2009 especially since I think we will get some more news on the future Mrs. Mosby.

Quotes:

Ted: There aren’t any black people in Minnesota?
Marshall: Not if Prince is on tour.

Barney: “Heh, I can celebrate Hanukkah too.”

Barney: “I’ll take my chair and go.”
