How I Met Your Mother S4.E24 The Leap

Since last season How I Met Your Mother fans have been waiting to find out what happened with the goat that ended up in Ted’s apartment. While the goat was a little bit of a disappointment and the episode could have been funnier, I still thought last night’s season finale of How I Met Your Mother was good and has made me excited about next season.

The Goat: It was probably due to the fact that everyone had way too high of expectations for the goat, but I was disappointed. Not because the goat wasn’t funny (how could a female goat beating up a grown man not be funny), it was mostly because I thought the goat might actually mean more long term for the show. It obviously doesn’t and was mostly used to just tell us that Ted and Robin would eventually become roommates.

The Mosby: I feel sorry for Ted. The gang has now officially made his whole name into negative verbs. First there was “Ted Up” (to over think something) and now there is “to Mosby” (to confess your love to early and destroy all mutual feelings). I wonder what Ted’s middle name is since that is soon to become another verb.

After that side note I have to say that I am happy that Barney and Robin “hooked up” (if that is what you can call it since who knows how many times they are going to change their minds). It was obvious that this day was eventually coming. I am happy about it as well. I like Barney and Robin together. The show has its work cut out for it though since I would like the relationship to last the rest of the series. This means that the show needs to take the relationship slowly and make it slowly change both characters. I don’t think the relationship can be developed too quickly or Barney is going to change too quickly.

The Leap: While the storyline didn’t really have any long term effects, I thought it was still entertaining. It was funny to see Marshall continually chicken out about jumping between the buildings (I personally would never think of doing it). I wonder how Marshall and the gang ended up getting down afterwards. It was funny though when Lily pretended to be pregnant in order to get him to come down. With all the effort to try to hide her pregnancy in real life, I thought it was funny that for a moment we were left to believe that after all that trouble the show would make her pregnant next season.

Ted Mosby the Professor: I have to admit that I like the idea of Ted Mosby the Professor. I can’t imagine all the college hi jinks the gang can now get into now that they will have access to Ted’s college. I am guessing some of Ted’s fellow professors will end up being guest stars next season. As far as the reveal that Ted’s future bride was one of his students, I like it. I am guessing the show will keep giving us these little clues on how Ted and his future wife were connected before they actually met.  I still believe that the show will never really show us who the mother is and the series will end with Ted saying “and that is how I met your mother.”

Ted being his future wife’s teacher does bring up some questions. Unless Ted’s bride is a non traditional student (didn’t go to college right after graduating high school), Ted’s future wife is considerably younger than Ted. Ted’s bride would have to be over 10 years younger since Ted is 31 and the student would be around 18-22. This actually makes a little sense though since the matchmaker did bring up that new girls turn 18 every day and we did see that Ted eventually had a perfect match at the service.Who knows if that little saying actually means anything.

Next Season: This year was a great season but was a disappointment based on How I Met Your Mother’s standards. I have high hopes for next season though. I am guessing the Robin and Barney’s relationship will begin to grow. I think Lily and Marshall will try to start a family. Finally Ted will probably adjust to his new job while finding out more about his future bride.

All I know is that I can’t wait for next season of How I Met Your Mother.
