The Case: Thirteen has a one-night stand with a woman who has a seizure in the morning.
The Process and Solution: Since drugs were found in the woman, House initially thinks they are the cause. House makes an excuse so Thirteen can’t check her own house for the source and he can go instead. He finds a spider and now thinks she may have been bitten. Thirteen checks her for a bite but finds out the woman can’t feel her hips. This means she has low potassium levels and there is something wrong with her kidneys. Thirteen realizes that she has cysts. Unfortunately these will kill her eventually. However, when House sees Thirteen’s cracked lips he asks her if the woman cried when she told her it was terminal. Since she didn’t, she has Sjoegren’s disease and will be fine.
The Personal Stuff: Along with her one-night stands, Thirteen has been doing drugs and staying up very late into the morning. She has less time than expected to live and she’s spending the few days she has left having fun. She injects herself at the hospital and Cuddy sees. Cuddy wants her to take a drug test but House fights for her. He then fires Thirteen. She eventually gets her job back after she does good work on the case. However, she still is living recklessly, hooking up with random women and doing drugs.
When Wilson lies about where he was in the morning, House and Lucas begin to follow him again. Wilson tells him that he’s seeing an ex-prostitute and Lucas finds out he’s doing drugs. House knows this isn’t him and sure enough he was playing him. He was simply acting as a character reference for Cuddy, who is trying to adopt a baby.
