The Case: A woman heads to China to meet who she thinks are her birth parents. They claim that they aren’t her parents. The woman winds up throwing up blood.
The Process: Before heading back home, the woman was treated for SARS by Chinese doctors. This wasn’t the correct diagnosis since her liver is failing. She also smokes and drinks way too much and her disease very well could be genetic but she doesn’t know who her real parents are.
The Solution: House and Wilson realize that the woman wasn’t supposed to live. She was born after China’s one-child act went into law. Her parents tried to kill her by getting pins into her head. Whenever she would come near a magnet, one would push in further and cause problems. The pins are surgically removed and the patient is fine. Also, since the pins were pushing down on the part of brain that causes addictions, her smoking and drinking habits weren’t her fault.
The Funeral: House’s dad dies but he doesn’t want to go to the funeral because he hated the man. Cuddy has to drug him and have Wilson drive him to the funeral. House humorously tries everything to get out of going. He knocks Wilson’s car keys into a gutter and makes him get a speeding ticket. The speeding ticket almost works since Wilson has an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was charged with vandalism and assault in Louisiana. House had bailed him out even though he didn’t even know him. The two are eventually released but House wants to stay.
House knew that his father wasn’t his real dad. He even told his father about his suspicions. House has to make a speech at the funeral but he mostly just insults his father. He also takes a piece of his ear when he bends over to kiss him. He takes it in for testing and it turns out his suspicions were correct. Wilson tells House that he is coming back to work, the drive to the funeral was the most fun he had in some time.
