Back in the 1980’s a show by the name of Hotel premiered. Hotel was a couple years before my time so I obviously was not able to see the show live. With that said, after watching the show on dvd, I thought Hotel was a pretty average drama/comedy.
Hotel brought television viewers into the St. Gregory Hotel every week. Every week new guests arrived at the hotel for some rest and relaxation. The hospital’s staff included Victoria Cabot (who oversaw the hotel for her sister-in-law), Peter McDermott (the general manager), Christine (Peter’s assistant), Mark (in charge of public relations), and Billy Griffin (the security chief).
For those of you who have never seen the show, a good comparisson would be The Love Boat. The episode structure is similar. Except for Hotel being a little more recent, in a hotel instead of a boat, and a little more drama mixed in; Hotel is essentially just like The Love Boat. For those of you who have never seen the Love Boat either, the show is basically a drama/comedy about a hotel and it’s weekly guests.
Overall I found the show to be pretty average. The show wasn’t bad but it was missing something. Maybe it’s because the show is older and possibly a little out of date. Otherwise it might be the episode structure since I am not a huge fan of the Love Boat either.
One problem with the dvd set is the lack of special features. As a matter of fact there are no special features. This is disappointing since much older series are able to have special features. I don’t know why Hotel couldn’t have scrapped together some special features.
If you were a fan of Hotel or of the Love Boat you should pick up the first season of Hotel.
