Last night the fifth season of Grey’s Anatomy began and I have to say that I wasn’t nearly as excited as I thought I would be. I guess that is what happens after having two average seasons. While the ratings might not say it, Grey’s Anatomy is back in my opinion.
While the cases this week were pretty weak and even kind of confussing (more on that later) I thought the episode showed that Grey’s Anatomy is going to have a comeback season. It seems like Shonda Rhimes finally realized that one of the reasons that season two of Grey’s Anatomy was so great was that some humor was added. After two season the show finally realizes to add some humor back into the show and I have to say that it was sorely missed at least in my opinion.
As far as the cases of the week I have to say that they were pretty weak. I don’t know if it was just me but the cases were pretty confussing. I seriously had a hard time telling any of the husbands apart and I had no idea who was married to who. They could have done a better job seperating the different cases so they would have been easier to follow.
One thing I did like about the episode is the new character of Owen. I think the character is a pretty original character. I also liked Kevin McKidd in Journeyman so it is nice to see him get another role. While he is only a recurring character at this point it sounds like they are planning on adding him as a regular so people that liked his character should see quite a bit of him very soon.

Troubles At Seattle Grace: Seattle Grace is downgraded to the 12th best teaching hospital in the country. This upsets Chief Weber since Mercy West is now the best hospital in town so they get all the best cases and they are stuck with the leftovers. Chief Weber decides to run a tighter ship and make his surgeons perfect their craft.
The Deadly Ball: All Seattle Grace’s cases come from two car crashes. The two cars belong to 3 married couples that are best friends. Both their cars crashed due to black ice. They limo driver quickly dies. So does one of the husbands. One of the other husband’s vocal cords are damanged and he is never able to talk again. It turns out that he actually cheated on his wife with one of the other wives. His wife is upset at first but she agrees to work through the problems.
The final husband is paralyzed. Callie ends up freezing his spine which actually helps him regain some feeling in his feet. The final injury is sustained to one of the wives. She actually has a head injury that resets her memory every 30 seconds. They try to fix her condition but they can’t.
Christina and Owen: An army doctor (Owen) shows up at the hospital along with ball guests. He quickly shows his skill by actually initially saving one of the husbands using a ballpoint pen. While outside Christina is actually pierced by a falling icicle. She isn’t seriously hurt but Owen treats her and removes the icicle. Christina and Owen end up kissing. When Weber asks Owen if he wants a job at the hospital he declines.
Derek, Meredith and Rose: Meredith keeps having dreams about Derek dying. She feels that she is only panicking about committing to Derek. Rose ends up acting jealous and her jealousy ends up affecting her work. She actually ends up accidentally stabbing Derek with a piece of surgical equipment in the hand. Derek is ok and Rose decides to be reassigned to a different part of the hospital. Meredith eventually asks Derek to move in with her and he accepts her offer.
Hahn and Callie: Hahn and Callie avoid each other throughout the day. They eventually talk and both realize that it was the first time both of them ever kissed another woman. They decide to see where the relationship goes.
George and Lexie: Lexie has a crush on George but she is afraid to tell him since she doesn’t know what his reaction will be. She ends up asking him indirectly and George only thinks of them as friends and nothing more.
