Chuck and Blair
Chuck tries to get back to his old ways but he just can’t since he can’t get over Blair. Things are made worse when Blair decides to return home early. When Blair returns home Chuck decides to apologize but he changes his mind when Blair returns home with a new guy named James. Whenever Chuck is around Blair keeps bringing up how great James is in order to make Chuck jealous. Chuck decides to do a background check on James and he finds out that James isn’t who he claimed to be.
Blair ends up asking James to the White Party (one of the Hampton’s big parties of the summer). At the party James gets upset with Blair since he realizes that she is just using him to make Chuck jealous. Blair ends up apologizing. James then reveals that he isn’t who he originally told Blair he was. His real name is actually Marcus and he is a lord. Marcus tells Blair that he just wants them to be honest with one another. Since Blair loves royalty so much she is able to quickly forgive him. Chuck gets one last opportunity to win Blair back. All he has to tell her is that he loves her. Chuck isn’t able to tell her those words though so Blair leaves the party with Marcus.
Nate and Catherine
During the summer Nate and Serena come up with a plan to pretend to be together in order to get Gossip Girl off their backs. Meanwhile Nate has found a new girl (Catherine) during his summer at the Hamptons. It turns out that Catherine is much older than him and she is actually married. When Catherine’s husband returns home he needs to jump off the balcony in order to escape. Serena actually sees him and quickly realizes that he is sleeping with a married woman.
Catherine ends things with Nate since she thinks her husband will find out. Nate is hurt so he decides to go to the White Party with Serena in order to make Catherine jealous. This make Catherine jealous and it is even made worse when Serena kisses him while she is looking. Catherine decides to take Nate back and actually sleeps with him at the party. Catherine decides to stay with Nate but tells him that they need to be more careful in the future.
Serena and Dan
During the summer Dan has an internship with a famous writer. It also appears that Dan has gotten over Serena since he has gone out with several women since he broke up with Serena. Dan is having trouble writing his story that he is supposed to show to his internship director. Dan can never finish his story since he realizes that he isn’t over Serena yet. Dan ends up losing his internship because he didn’t finish his story.
Meanwhile Serena has done absolutely nothing during the summer. She has actually been moping around the whole summer. Blair tries to get her to go out on a date but she doesn’t want too. As the White Party approaches Dan decides that he made a mistake dumping Serena so he decides to try and win her back. Dan meets with Serena’s grandmother and she helps Dan get ready for the party (she realizes that Serena truly loves him). Dan shows up and actually sees Serena and Nate kissing. Dan’s summer girlfriends also show up and throw their drinks at Dan since they found out about one another. Dan and Serena let these two things go and they end up spending the night together on the beach.
Jenny
Jenny was busy during the summer working for Elenore’s fashion company. Jenny is disappointed that the internship is not exactly what she was wishing for since Elenore has been gone the whole summer and she has been bossed around by Laurel (Elenore’s assistant) the whole summer. All Laurel does is insult Jenny’s work. Jenny is really anticipating the White Party since she thinks it can really get her name out there. Laurel refuses to let her go though. Jenny ends up going to the party though with Erik (she makes up with him from the past year first). Jenny quickly makes friends at the party and gets her name out there to many models and other designers. This doesn’t please Laurel.
Rufus
Rufus is closing down the tour with his band. He calls up Jenny and finds out that she and Dan have changed so much this summer. Rufus starts getting homesick.
