In the third season of Ghost Whisperer everything changes for Melinda. At the end of season two Melinda saw the ghost of her father and found out that she has a brother. These revelations lead Melinda to look into her families past. As she delves further into her family’s past she finds out that she was destined to end up in Grandview. With the help of her husband Jim, occult expert Professor Payne, and friend Delia; Melinda discovers a dark past of Grandview that no one could have imagined.

Since I always like being honest in my reviews, I have to admit that I had never seen an episode of Ghost Whisperer until I received this DVD set in the mail. When the show began I didn’t have time to give the show a chance. Then I could never catch up with the show so I pushed it off longer. Since I got the third season in the mail I decided to finally start watching the show even though I had not seen the previous two seasons. Even without all the backstories from the previous two seasons I still thought the third season of Ghost Whisperer was pretty good.

For those of you who have never seen Ghost Whisperer before it is pretty much a show about getting ghosts that are stuck in our world to cross over and leave this world for good. This might just be my opinion but I would compare Ghost Whisperer to a crime drama. While most cases don’t actually involve a crime the show is structured much like a crime drama. Melinda gathers information about the ghost’s life in order to find out what happened to them and why they haven’t left this world. Along with the weekly cases there is also a season long plot. In the case of the third season I thought the season long plot was pretty average. As I mentioned earlier I haven’t seen the first two seasons so I couldn’t compare the season long plot with the previous seasons.

Overall I found the episodes to be really consistent. There really weren’t any great or bad episodes in my opinion. I do have to bring up the shortened season due to the writer’s strike. Just like pretty much every other show last season Ghost Whisperer’s season was cut short and is actually only 18 episodes long. While you still get a lot of episodes you aren’t getting as much bang for your buck as you would have got in previous seasons.

If you like Ghost Whisperer and you like special features you should really like the third season of Ghost Whisperer. This season actually has a lot of special features that should interest you if you like the show. First there is The Other Side II Webseries. This is actually a webisode series that actually aired on the internet. Second there is the Interactive Haunted House which just let you take a ride through a haunted house. Then there is Welcome to the Underworld which deals with the season long plot about the secrets of Grandview. Bringing the Spirits to Life is a feature about creating the spirits for the show. Interactive Mashup lets you create your own cemetery scene. There is an animated short that explains what happened between season two and three of Ghost Whisperer. You can check out Melinda’s haunted diary. There are also two behind the scenes looks at how Melinda’s fashion has evolved throughout the series and about Professor Payne. Finally there are commentaries on select episodes.

So I thought Ghost Whisperer was a pretty good show. There really weren’t any bad episodes in the season. Combine that with quite a few special features and this is a very good DVD set for fans of the show. If you have never seen the show before I would recommend that you pick up the first season of the show if you are interested in the show. If you have already watched the show an would consider yourself a fan of the show I can’t believe that you wouldn’t like this DVD set.
