fringe s1e6 300x199 Fringe S1.E6 The Cure (October 21, 2008) Recap

The Case: A woman who was held against her will heads into a diner and everyone eventually starts bleeding out of their eyes. They then die and the woman’s head explodes.

The Investigation: Walter finds high levels of radiation and thinks the woman (Emily) was the source. He also finds out that she had an incurable autoimmune disease but seemed to be in remission. Further tests show that she was held against her will and given medicine.

Another woman (Claire) with the same disease goes missing. She was also in remission. Walter shows Olivia that the people in the diner were effectively cooked by the radiation. Capsules found in her cured her but also likely caused the radiation.

Olivia finds out that Claire and Emily not only knew each other, but were best friends. Claire’s husband points her in the direction of her doctor. The doctor gives Olivia a name of a drug company (Intrepis) and the man behind the treatment (David).

Peter goes to Nina hoping to get some dirt on David. She offers to give him the exact location where Claire is being held in exchange for a favor in the future. Peter makes this deal and Walter creates a cure. A team storms the building and Olivia talks Claire through how to inject herself with the cure. David doesn’t think he’ll do any time but Olivia tips off the press, driving Intrepis’s stock price way down.

The Personal Stuff: It’s Olivia’s birthday and she isn’t very happy. She later tells Peter that this is because of her stepfather. He was abusive so she shot him twice. She wanted to finish him off but didn’t and he eventually escaped. He now sends a card every year on her birthday just to let her know he’s still out there. She gets this year’s card at the end of the episode.
