The Case: Electrical items start turning on around a guy named Joseph. Eventually, he causes an elevator to go crazy. It free falls and everybody in it, including the girl he has a crush on, dies. Joseph manages to get out unscathed.
The Investigation: The team is brought into this case. Walter thinks everyone was electrocuted. The entire elevator is charged with an electromagnetic field. He worked on a theory that pigeons could home into a person’s electromagnetic field and track them. It actually worked but these people wound up being able to control electrical devices.
Joseph continues to cause destruction accidentally (he hurts his boss and kills his mother). Phillip tells Olivia about some clinics they’ve found while working on Pattern cases and mentions a Dr. Fischer as a possible suspect. Olivia sees John again and this time he can talk to her. He tells her to get to Joseph before Fischer finds him. Fischer, who did work on Joseph earlier, finds him again.
Walter figures out a way to track down Joseph. He realizes that his favorite cassette tape will have Joseph’s “electronic signature” attached. He then has a group of carrier pigeons pick up on this signal and they lead the team right to Fischer’s lab. Joseph tries to run away but Peter eventually stops him. Both Joseph and Fischer are brought in for questioning.
The Boyfriend: Olivia sees John several times throughout the episode. In addition to the time mentioned above, she also saw him at the lab. John claimed that he didn’t betray her and he will prove it soon. Walter tells Olivia that part of his consciousness crossed over to her during the experiment from the pilot episode. However, Olivia sees him once again. She follows him to a hideout that contains a ton of files. It turns out that John was conducting his own investigations. He knew about The Pattern and Fischer. He was also about to propose to Olivia and even had a ring picked out.
The Review: This episode was a bit of a disappointment after the spectacular episode from two weeks ago that added so many questions to the series. The case was rather boring this week but I did like the John stuff. It actually gave Olivia a chance to appear human instead of her usual robotic self. I’m almost as curious about what happened to John (and which side he was on) as I am about The Observer (who by the way made another small appearance this week).
