Note: We are testing out a new way of recapping episodes this week. Since most people just watch the episode online if they missed it on TV, recaps are no longer as important. We think longer reviews containing just the most important information would be a better way to go. Do you agree? How do you think we could improve these episode reviews?
In this episode there is pretty much only one storyline. The Griffin’s head to a 1950’s diner. While at the diner Peter hears “Surfin’ Bird” from the Trashmen on the jukebox. He immediately becomes obcessed with the song and plays it constantly. Brian and Stewie eventually get sick of it so they destroy his record. Peter goes around town trying to find the song again. In one of the record stores he finds Jesus. He quickly becomes friends with him. One day Peter tells Jesus that he should make himself known to the world. Jesus quickly becomes the biggest celebrity in the world. Jesus becomes too big of a celebrity that he has no time to spend with Peter since he has a bunch of new friends. Jesus’ life goes out of control until he ends up in prison. Jesus learns that he needs to grow up. To thank him for all his help Jesus materializes another record of “Surfin’ Bird”.
Overall I thought this episode was pretty average. One thing that really didn’t help was the fact that “Surfin’ Bird” has to be one of the most annoying songs ever. It didn’t hurt that the song was probably played for about a third of the episode. When the episode ended all I could think was that I hope to never have to listen to that song ever again in my life. As far as the plot itself it was really missing the laugh out loud moments in my opinion. So far this season has really lacked those moments so hopefully they return in future episodes.
