As most of our regular readers know, I am far from a fan of stunt casting. I don’t like stunt casting since it usually interferes with good shows. Stunt casting has always been to just drive new viewer’s to a show. While I appreciate good shows getting extra viewers, I just don’t think stunt casting is worth it. Thankfully this year stunt casting has actually been pretty good. Chuck has actually done pretty well this season (except for the terrible selection of Nicole Richie). With all this said you would think that I was pretty skeptical of Katie Holmes joining Eli Stone’s cast for a week. It turns out that it was actually a very good decision.
While I know this isn’t possible, I actually wish Katie Holmes’ role would actually become a recurring or regular character on the show. Obviously it isn’t going to happen but I liked the character. Grace actually kind of reminded me of Joey from Dawson’s Creek. I think other shows should take Katie Holmes’ stunt casting as an example. It showed that you can stunt cast and be sucessful with it. If you develop a good character stunt casting isn’t such a bad idea. Another positive with the stunt casting is that it actually seemed to help Eli Stone maintain it’s ratings from last week. If Eli Stone is able to maintain those numbers for another week it should be pretty safe which is a good thing since Eli Stone is one of the best shows on television.
As already mentioned Eli meets Grace at a baseball game (after having a vision of her). You can quickly tell that they are very similar. They actually both do pro bono work and are turning their lives around. Eli takes her on a date and they enjoy themselves. Grace is leaving the USA though in order to help out in Africa. Eli doesn’t want her to go especially after he finds out that his father predicted they were meant to meet one another. It turns out that she has a heart condition just like Eli’s brain anurism. Eli tries to get her to stay but she leaves for Africa.
Meanwhile Eli also has a new case of a father who is fighting with his wife. He wants his son (who died in the military) not to have a military funeral. His wife wants the military funeral though so the case is brought to court. The father knows his son didn’t want a military funeral. He is losing the case until he finally hands over an email he received from his son in which his son blames him for joining the military. His son hated being in the military. The father ends up winning his case (his son doesn’t get a military funeral) but he ends up losing his wife since she can’t forgive him for forcing their son to join the military.
Finally Jordan continues his plan to turn the firm around. He actually proposes that the whole firm work for underdog clients. The other partners obviously don’t approve and actually freeze his power in the firm until he gets psychological exam. While the law firm is worried about Jordan’s position, Jordan isn’t worried.
